Anyone know if you can start an a fully assembled engine outside the vehicle? Like if I have the computer and harness hooked up to it, a starter and battery hooked up, radiator, a fuel pump and some line in a gas can could you start it? I want to do it for break in purposes before its even put in the car. I'd be watching all readings via HP tuners.

Fun thing about buying this used T/Am is learning new stuff. To wit, Dex-Cool organic coolant ?! WTF?! That orange stuff is like probiotic yogurt and actually EATS my aluminum engine? Going to have a system flush and replace w new DexCool at GM dealer, but curious:
Any damage to engine if hasn't been changed in past 4 years (2nd owner), or ever since '99.new? First owner was an older car guy who bought pace-car model new at Daytona... so HOPEFULLY it was changed once or twice between '99 and 2012????? :-(
Wish there was a GM dealer service where you could search all services by VIN? Is there?Last edited by BobbyGFirebird; 04-10-2016 at 06:41 PM.

I have looked into Haggerty. They will let you put collector's insurance on your car AND daily drive it. It's all just a matter of how much you want to pay. Generally, you and the insurance company agree upon a value for the car (minimum is $30K) and you pay the insurance according to that value and the way that the car is used. For my Z, assuming daily driving, the cost would have been $291/month (so... around $3500 per year), but it won't be totaled unless it sustains $30K worth of damage... so there's that. In any case, the policy is customized to your needs.

What did you do with your Trans Am today?
Any kind of coolant becomes corrosive after a certain time period. Green stuff last two years. Orange Dexcool lasts 4 or 5 years. If left unchecked for a long period of time, it can corrode an aluminum or iron block. It can get bad enough that the head gaskets won't seal. Rarely happens but it can.
