Pewter- 2000 Pontiac Trans Am
Computer loses memory
My car 2000 trans am will randomly lose its idle and the codes will be cleared. I have looked for a short or lose connection but can't find any. This has been going on for 3 or 4 years now and has happened about 5 or 6 times. The last time it happend was the other day at the grocery store. The car was off for 5 or 6 minutes at the most and when I started it it had to relearn idle and all the codes were cleared. (No egr, air, or rear O2's).
I'm thinking the computer has to be losing power to reset like it is, unless I am accidentally resetting it somehow.
Does anyone have any ideas where to look next or what's going on here?Last edited by V8MUSCLE; 04-06-2016 at 04:51 PM.

Interesting. Start with the battery cables and check for anything loose at each end. Connectors at the PCM fully engaged?

Check the battery and PCM fuses, pulling those will reset everything.

Better check your RAM status and if possible reinstall those as they are creating an issue here with your system memory

The only aftermarket device in the car is the CD player.
I didn't see any splices but most of the wired are in the loom just the ends stick out. The connection the computer is good I assume. I wiggled the loom and the computer moved with the wire.
It's hard to test tho since it only happens every couple months

Sometimes you can get corrosion under the battery cables that you can't see. Take both the cables off the battery and look for white powder looking stuff where it connects to the battery. These surfaces should be completely clean. Use a wire brush to make sure it's clean. Also check all the ground connections. These should also be cleaned.
