Agreed. But that's not what I consider a "money pit". To me, "money pit" or "hole into which you throw money" refers to something on which you constantly spend money with no return. Gas money and general maintenance for a boat, while definitely expensive, does offer a return.

Marinized motors are ridiculously expensive, largely due to the designs necessary to support open loop cooling. Though I don't personally believe that explanation truly justifies the cost, as a plain jane Mercury 350 MPI crate motor costs more than an LS9. No way a jacketed block and some zinc anodes cost enough to account for that price difference.

I hear ya. It's because it's a specialty market. They know they pretty much have boat owners by the balls lol. Oh, don't want to pay me $500 for a boat trailer tire, sorry...you just won't ever enjoy your boat again. Obviously that's exaggerated, but drives the point home.

Houses out here in the warm dry desert South West are twice the price than similar stuff found back East.

Depends how far east you go. Go to the northeast coast and it's insanely expensive.

Was just about to comment the same. I travel East often and there's some areas which are extremely expensive.

Probably to some. I personally wouldn't pay squat for a house over there, no way I'm dealing with those north east winters.

It's all personal preference but my idea of a dream house is a warm dry climate, no humidity, even hot is okay. For us the climate is a big part of the decision making when it comes to the kind of money I'd pay for a house.

I wouldn't either. Just stating it's expensive lol. An example: One bedroom apartments in New York rent for $3253 a month on average and two bedroom apartment rents average $4058.

When I was growing up I always wanted to move south to where it's warm year round. My brother did exactly that. Lived 3 years in NC then moved to Boca Raton (FL) for 5 years. Learned it wasn't all he hoped. He now lives in Bend OR where they currently have 5-14ft of snow (depending on elevation), and snowboards from late sept to memorial day. Absolutely loves it. What i've learned - I like having seasons. I don't appreciate the summer without the winter.

I am the outdoors type. I love nature, and all of its creations. From mountains to rivers, rock formations, streams, etc. I hope to retire out west one day; likely Colorado. I love it there. Oregon is one of the few states I've yet to visit. I hear it's beautiful though.

I feel the same way. Most areas of this country are beautiful. Even the desert like areas of the southwest have major beauty. I just don't want to live anywhere that doesn't have forests.

I moved to southern Texas for a while. 20min from the Gulf. Where winter is 50 degrees for 2 weeks out of the year. I enjoyed my time there but I found myself missing seasons and White Christmas.

Yeah to each their own. What your brother did was go from humid, to even more humid, lol. Florida has never been my idea of a dream spot either. Surrounded by water, super humid conditions, and every day I've ever spent there it was always raining somewhere.

After being out west I simply can't stand the humidity back East anymore. And I absolutely won't deal with "FEET" of snowfall

I've had my share of that.....no more.

We have what the Prescott people call, 4 very mild seasons. We have leaves changing colors, cool temps, up here maybe 2-3" of snow fall for the winter season, more if you want to go up in elevation and visit it. Our average winter temps are generally in the 50's with sunshine. Sping things bloom and summers are dry with maybe 4-5" of average rainfall a year is what I experience here at the house, with temps around 100 in the summer give or take 5 degrees, with dew points in the single digits and maybe 15% humidity that means the difference from the sunshine to the shade is a drastic temp change, (unlike humid conditions) it's very comfortable and easy to escape when outside. So you can say we have 4 seasons here, they are just mild seasons. It's why Prescott has been voted the most popular retirement destination in the country.

We have forests here in the desert, we call it "high desert" which is where I live. In the mountains here the trees are super thick.

Not that familiar with southern Texas although it does sound nice. My only fear is the occasional hurricane that blows in. Our average high temps in the winter are in the 50's but it lasts more than 2 weeks. Here it's more like 2 months. The low temps in the high desert easily dip into the teens however so if any precip moves in during the night time hours, it's snow. But with dew points so low and the atmosphere being moisture starved, we just don't get much of it. We get 2-3", sometimes a little more over a period of 2 months. So it's enough to satisfy the craving. Nice part about it is that it always warms up again the next day into the upper 40's to low 50's so the snow never hangs around past noon. It's gone the next day.

When people think Arizona they automatically think "dry desert with no vegetation" and yes I even thought the same thing. Fact is that couldn't be further from the truth. We have drastic elevation changes from near sea level to well over 11,000 feet. You can pretty much pick the climate you like the best and buy a house there. You can have a lot of snow if you wish, or live in the valley and have none with 70 degree winter temps, or get up about 5,000 feet and have a little of both (where I'm at)
But the best part about it (I think) is that when your sick of it and want a change, you can jump in your car and drive an hour in any direction and have weather change to what ever your heart desires. It's nice to buzz down to Phoenix and do some Christmas shopping in December at the outdoor malls and enjoy 70 degree temps for a day. Or go the other direction to Flag and trample in the snow.
