Who Has Seen The Force Awakens?
So who has seen the new Star Wars movie and what did you think?
I'm going to withhold my opinion until others get a chance to speak.
On second thought, no I'm not.
I can only guess that all the raving reviews I read were from either rabid fans who were desperate for anything after the lousy prequels or from people who saw a different movie than I did.
While it was indeed better than the last 3 films (or is that first 3 films?), that is admittedly not a very high bar to clear.
I thought it was mediocre.
Maybe I'm just not as big a fan as I should be to enjoy it?

It was better than the last 3 but I think the next movie will be THE movie to see. This movie told the story and got everything set up for whats going to happen in the future.

Haven't seen it. Don't remember much about the first ones. I was young when I saw them and never watched them again. Might give it a whirl though, not until I watch the other ones again first though.

I'll agree..saw it last night. Meh. It was a decent to good movie, but to say it was the most amazing film ever...."No"
Fight scenes were good, story seem to gloss over/go too fast in key points. It paid lots of homage to the the other movies, saw many Easter eggs. New Sith kid comes off as a whiny bitch, Instant dislike of him from me. Some plot details were too obvious as to what was next to happen. Agree with Pat, it made a good base for the next 2-3 films.
When comparing the Episode 1-3 this one had far better battles, more people & real terrain vs CGI.
Between this one and his Star Trek movie I like the Star Trek better.
Only spoiler I'll give......The storm troopers actually hit their targets in this film.Last edited by SMWS6TA; 12-28-2015 at 10:35 AM.

I agree with most on here. When I left the theater I wasn't amazed but I also didn't want my money back. To be honest I didn't think most of the battles were all that great but I think the reason for that is because these were untrained kids fighting. I have high hopes the next movie will have better battles. You get this sort of movie when they have to introduce all new characters and their stories. Takes up a lot of action time.
I would have to disagree with Scott on the battles of episodes 1-3. There were some good battles in them. While Phantom Menace was a bad movie I like the 3 way lightsaber fight at the end. Episode 3 had the most fast paced lightsaber fight of any of the movies ever between Obi and Vader. The lightsaber fight in the new movie was pretty bad but it was an injured guy and two untrained kids fighting so you expect it to be out of sync and uncoordinated. But that doesn't make it a better fight than some of the others that had trained warriors fighting. But I get where you are coming from as some of the CGI looks pretty meh in episode 1-3.Last edited by Zinergy; 12-28-2015 at 11:56 AM.

I forgot about the 3 way fight in 1. My only gripe about it it seem way to short for the hype. Darth Maul had this huge build up and it seem he was there for about 5-10 mins of screen time.
My favorite saber fight was Yodi vs DookuLast edited by SMWS6TA; 12-28-2015 at 12:49 PM.

The "untrained" part doesn't matter now since the new Force Girl (Riley? Rey? Ripley?) can use the force to instantly know how to expertly pilot the Millennium Falcon as well as pick up a light sabre for the first time and defeat a Sith.
It's like she has a link to the Operator in The Matrix who downloads the skills to her.
I viewed it as more of JJ Abrams BS plot lines, like in Star Trek 2 where the Enterprise is rendered obsolete and unnecessary since Khan can teleport instantly to the Klingon planet instead of spending days at warp speed.

True she did beat a trained Sith. He was injured and bleeding pretty good and he was Angry, letting his anger getting the best of him. Anyone who has studied most styles of sword fighting knows that anger leads to sloppy mistakes.

I've never seen Star Wars, had some downtime over my school break.
Saw:
IV
V
VI
and the new one. I thought it was a great mix of old and new. No complaints from me. I also enjoyed the Hateful Eight, The Big Short and going to The Revenant today.
