Big F#ckin Hammer (BFH) Mod how to W/ Pictures
Tools
• Floor Jack
• Jack Stands
• Little Hammer
• Big Hammer
• Tire Iron
• 13mm socket (two bump stop bolts each side)
• Sawzall or Grinder (I like Sawzall because of less sparks by the gas tank)
• Rust resistant paint / undercoating
Front
Tires are ZR1 Replica rims with 275/40ZR17, Break lugs free, jack up vehicle, brace vehicle with jack stand, take tire off, mount and move on.
Back
ZR1 Replica Rims with Sumitomo HTR 35Z (each tire is different). I was rubbing after instillation so I figured why not be safe and make some room by “Massaging” the wheel wells. For starters when you lift the vehicle and try and mount the wheel the top of the Rim/Tire will hit the bump stop. Most just lift the axel up to fit the rim but I wanted more room as my suspension will travel and I wanted the peace of mind of a little wiggle room.
Back rim with tire on is just over 12 inches.
I started by trimming the bump stop mount.
Then I removed the welded nuts with vice grips.
Mounted both sets of rims and take your hand around the back of the tire checking for contact. If you feel comfortable with what you feel drive around the block, come back and pulled both rear tires off again and checked for rubbing/contact.
Remove rims and look for anything like rubbing.
I was planning to remove all the sharp parts anyways but wanted to check what I had to work with.
Then I continued by bending in all the lips and medal that would have come close to the rubber.
Hit the bare medal with some paint and undercoating.
Clean up your mess before you drop your tire to make sure you get all the sharp parts up.
Once you clean up take your hand and run it around the back of the tire again making sure your not making contact with any part of the wheel well.
Check your work.

Wow. Lots of work to fit those. How are your roads? I know our car has utilized the bump stops from time to time. I trimmed back the mounting pad a bit and remove the bump stops whenever I install my track wheels.

I will mount a different bump stop for safety later. I have plenty of room now and feel better about the added clearance. They would have fit without all the work but I liked the added peace of mind.

Totally agree. I never really looked to see if there would be another mounting option, but no reason that a narrow round bump stop wouldn't do the trick.

Good writeup. I trimmed my bump stops back some but they were always inside the 11in rim i had. I always lifted from the rear axle due to ride height so never worried. Would take a pretty big hit to touch rim.
