    oil leak

So my firehawk started to leak, bummer. Its a drip while running, gets worse when at rest. When running I do not have fluctuatin oil pressure readings. I see the drip comming from the rear passenger corner of the oil pan. At first I though well its the rear main, when I got under the car and cleaned up the pan and started the car I noticed the oil start to drip from the top corner of the pan on the same side. I checked to see of bolts where lose and one was not loose but was not to torque it took not even a 16th of a turn to tighten but that still did nothing for the leak. So the oil pressure sending unit has been replaced, valve cover gaskets have been replaced, and the intake manifold gaskets have also been replaced. I believe its either the oil pan or rear main seal. Even though im taking it to a shop because I have never taken a tranny of a motor before I would hate to screw something up, I wanted to see what you guys could possibly thing it could be. Does the rear main usually leak closer to the bottom or to the top where the top corner of the pan is at?

Sounds like the rear main seal Dan. Try typing a little slower so we can get a better feel for what is going on with your car. Help us so we can help you. Gravity make it tough to locate the exact spot where it is leaking but once it leaks then it is shot and needs to be replaced.

Our car leaked and it turned out to be the oil pan gasket. I was certain it was the rear main, but when I swapped out the transmission the seal and rear cover were bone dry. Don't forget the rear cover is another potential for the source of the leak. Any chance it is the OPSU higher up?

Any chance the oil pan was popped off? I asked because GM has you put some RTV in the joints where the rear & front plates meet the oil pan to ensure sealing. If none was put on that would explain the leak.

Finally got it fixed. Was neither the oil pan, or the rear main but the rear main plate and plate gasket.
