6 psi is way too low, I don't care what the manual says. My SS has never been below 50 psi at idle and when it is cold it will go up to 80 psi at 2000 rpm. Put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the engine and fix the problem before you blow the motor.

That is low, but like Jeff has stated, an engine only needs 10psi per 1000RPM

I have a mech guage on it. It holds steady 14psi at 600 rpm idle in gear. I just keep and eye on it no changes no noises and temp is steady I will feel comfortable as long as nothing changes Im not a hard driver. just a middle age balding guy

Your engine should have over 40psi hot at idle. anything less is due to engine wear. You can live above 10psi but remember you engine is on its way out.

i would keep an eye on it but .. mine does the same and i check the oil cap and there is always oil on the cap so i know the oil is getting to places it needs to be lol. i have put over 45k on it with the same readings and no issues. idk why people like 60+psi readings...sounds like they might be used to driving v-6s

also manual states psig which means per sq in to gauge. it says your vehicles oil pressure gauge is calibrated to local areas of the vehicles location if you by the vehicle in tn and move to tx you would most likely get an odd pressure reading but idk the full truth in that i just know my baby runs great

    huh?

Only things that effects oil pressure is oil weight, viscosity (new vs used), temperature (both inside engine & outside), oil pump, rpm of the engine, bearing clearance and journals* to also including the amount in the pan.

    * - If you have forgotten to place the barbell you'll have very little to no oil pressure.

Location has nothing to do with it unless your implying the outside temps of the location the vehicle is at. For example Alaska vs Miami, FL in the winter.

Side note in regards to the gauges on the 4th gens.

98 is the only yr that the gauges are accurate for oil pressure & water temp. 99< have static gauges which are close but not precise. 98's also do not have a low fuel gauge while the others do.
