    For theft protection and general safety I would go with a switched positive. I depends on what you want to shut off as well.
    In modern street cars, a constant power supply is required to keep the electronics "warm" so they would need to be unswitched.
    1: It's too easy to jumper the negative to ground bypassing a negative shutoff.
    2: With the positive out there is no chance of shorts to ground if tampered with.
    3: In the Hot Rod piece the excuse to put the shut-off on the ground does not hold water as a good installation would make exposed terminals a non issue. In other words, any exposed parts carrying voltage should have been insulated, shame on them.
    4: Racing and street applications are different requirements so each needs to be addressed on a case basis.
    IMHO switching the positive is usually the better choice.
