Pretty cool, but the name of that video is misleading. They are not racing on ice, they are riding dirt bikes in the snow. Quite a big difference between snow and ice. At least with some snow on the surface, you have something to grab for traction. I don't think they would be able to do that on a lake covered in nothing but ice with no snow covering the ice. This is why black ice is so dangerous.
Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.

Thank you, all of you for the input! I feel a little more comfortable knowing that when it finally decides to snow here that I can get around with the 'Bird. I am shopping for snow tires, and I'll make sure to keep my tool box full of tools in the trunk as I usually do. And yes, I do have AAA towing!

In shopping for snow tires look for the studdable tires they have a more aggressive tread than the non stud winters. You then can choose weather or not to run with or without studs

I have seen options to have the tire studded---Ive never actually seen that done. Years ago I had to remove all my studs from my snowmobile track because Minnesota outlawed studs on trails and those things were HUGE. How do studded tires do on dry roads? I just can't see that being okay.

You have to be careful that's for sure under hard braking. I wrecked a mustang( long ago when I was young and dumb) under braking lost the rear end like I was on ice. I then found religion in GM had 2 Camaro's and now my TA and put them all to sleep when it got cold..
I would go with studdable winters with No studs and some weight in the back, small shovel, and a bag of kitty litter and you'll be fine. They also make some nice tire chains out of cable not chain like the old ones that could be used in a pinch to get you home.. Good luck to you and welcome to the site

I'm a bit late getting back to this thread. I've lived in Minneapolis for 22 years now (grew up in Florida .... DON'T ASK!!!!!), and have driven a '98 Bird for 4 winters up here. My suggestion would be to put about 100 pounds in the trunk and purchase special winter tires. I personally have Dunlop Winter Sport SPs in a 225 width on 16 inch rims, purchased the whole deal from Tire Rack. Best money I ever invested!! If the snow depth is less than 5 inches, you are good to go. I had it in the shop recently and was given a Buick Verano as a loaner. It was MUCH worst than the FB on the snow covered roads. My cul-de-sac is off-camber and heads uphill. No problems in the Bird, but the Verano would barely make it up. The secret is in the tires .... and make sure to turn the damn tracton control off. It makes things worse with the snow tires. A little slip is fine, but the TC tends to stop all forward motion. Flip it off!!!!!

Some kind of silver- 99 SS, Slp #1273... 08 gt
I am driving a 2008 Mustang gt in this weather without snow tires and have not had a problem as long as the tread design is good and a little common sense you wont have any problem, My SS may have to be used in this weather if the x-wife takes the Mustang.
