Fuel smell in the garage
Hey guys. I have noticed this issue lately after I drive the car for a while and park it inside the garage. I do smell like gas fumes. I put a brand new gas cap a last month. I get close to the gas cap area and wheel well I do smell the gas fumes. I don't see any gas on the floor or dripping anywhere. It smells more strong when the car is at 1/4 of a tank. I don't let it go down to that level often since I got a gas station aorund the corner. Any ideas on what to check? I'm supecting the tank is venting the fumes but why are so much fumes coming out? thanks.

Check your evap solenoid that plugs into the driver's side of intake manifold. It also is hooked into a evap canister, if loose it can result in a gas smell. Are you getting any other issues other than a gas smell?

when I was doing my fuel pump I notice there was a line that came off the tank and went to this white plastic piece. Looks like it was for venting. This may be cracked?

don't know. I will try to get underneath the car tomorrow and check. I might check the gasket in the tank where the fuel pump goes

the evap canister is behind the filler neck in the quarter panel towards the bumper. If you were leaking from a line going to that or if your evap purge wasn't working correctly you should be throwing a code and they're pretty sensitive. You really shouldn't be smelling gas but it does sound like you have an issue there if it's strong enough that you notice it that much. Have you done a fuel pump on the car or anything like that? Check your fittings at the fuel filter and make sure one isn't damp or something. Gas evaporates so unless it was a fairly large amount you might not see it on the floor.

From personal experience, when my car started emitting some pretty strong gasoline smells the P0420 code showed up. did exactly what you were describing.

I did the fuel pump 3 yrs ago. the issue started about 3 weeks ago. it comes and goes but it has been persistant lately. I will check the fittings.

You may laugh, but make sure there is no gas can in the area with an open vent....Stuff happens...

no lol. the smell only happens when I pull the car into the garage after driving it for a while. there is no fuel cans anyway.

You may have a leaky fuel injector.

didn't even think about that. You mean the o-ring leaking in the outside of the intake? but if that was the case, it will be smelling all the time. I park my car in the garage. I only seem to smell it when the tank is at 1/4 and I ran the car for a while. I will check anyway
