Turbo LS1 with 317 Heads
I know there are many threads about turbos and such but I would like to know some opinions... Im planning on doing a 408 stroker in the future but for now would like to turbo the LS1 to make some awesome power....
I know my 4l60e will not handle the power being stock so that would have to be rebuilt along with replacing the rear-end/driveshaft...
Iv been talking to a buddy that knows turbos real well and got some good information from him.
This is what Im looking at.
GT45 turbo, LS6 Intake, Full Gasket kit w/ARP bolts, oil lines, wastegate, BOV, LS6 Springs, Intercooler and piping, and we were going to get it bench tuned and fine tune it our selves...
I have a set of 317 heads to drop the compression on the LS1 and 6l exhaust manifolds, im going to front mount it also somewhat like this.
What you guys think?Last edited by My00Z28; 12-01-2011 at 01:39 PM.

Stock 6.0 Heads
Chamber 71.0 cc 0.100 0.200 0.300 0.400 0.500 0.550 0.600
Intake ??? 66 142 196 228 236 238 240
Exhaust ??? 59 104 137 155 167 173 177
Valve Diameter Intake 2.00"
Valve Diameter Exhaust 1.55"
Looking for around 500+HP but the fuel system will have to be upgraded to handle that!
idk if its correct but the only thing i could find was it may be 100lbs/min?

I would think max boost you will be able to run depending on the tune would be around 10-13psi on 93 oct on a built motor. With a 402 you could drop the CR to 9:1. I would think with that you would have no problem making 500 to 650 rwhp. If you look up my post about my build you will see the heads I used flow 391 at 0.600" lift and I'm also using a LS7 intake. I have a extra set of heads for sale if your intrested. My turbos flow 120 lbs/min and with those heads and 9:1 CR they made 805rwhp on 13lbs and 690rwhp on 9lbs.

thanks for the info... the 317 heads i got now are completely stock and ill be getting them ported and polished with full valve job so my flow numbers will be higher depending on the pistons i run and head gasket thickness i will be around 9.3ish:1 for my 408.... with the ls1 the way it is im going to throw the heads on as is with ls7 springs and intake ill probably push around 8-10 psi with ARP rod bolts! any info more is appreciated...

nice, i picked up a set of 317 head for $80 off ebay. even has the rockers still on it! will make up grading the springs and trunion upgrade, that much easier! hell of a deal!
Now i do have question on the 317 heads, can i run 317 heads on stock LS1 cam (5.7L mind you) temparaly or will this be too laggy in the reponse department? im still waiting to get a cam but was just wondering about this route for info.

You may notice a power difference because your going from 10.5:1 to 9.5:1. It will be fine just expect a power loss.

even if i up the boost?

With boost u should increase power because those heads flow like 243 heads.
