stud girldle..who makes a good one and how do i use it?
i just got a 600 ft lb rated tranny rebuild ($3000 ouch), problem is i have a stock torsen rear end (99 camaro Z28 T56). Im looking to somehow beef up the stock rear end and only way i can think of to do that is to buy a T/A rear end cover. I got no idea where to find one cheap or even how to set up those. i know they have bolts that run into the main caps on the diff but thats all i know..
do you need to run more fluid?
do you need different cover bolts?
will it clear aftermarker Panhard rods?
thanks fellas

Honestly, don't waste your $$ trying to keep the 10 bolt alive. Upgrade to an S60 or 9" for what you have going on. If you want a cover though, you can get them through Jeg's or Summit. Here's one by way of example: Proform 66667 Proform ''Perfect Launch'' Differential Cover

WellI just spent 3000 dollars on a transmission so my options are lmited into what I can spend for a while. meaning I must keep the puny 10 bolt alive.
I put Castrol syncrocmesh synthetic gear oil in it with the gm additive and that is it. I'll look into a cheap rear end girdle. Obviously spending $2000 on a 9 inch or a Dana would be impossible, Im stuck with what I got.

As long as you stay away from the track and don't get too crazy on the loud pedal and clutch dumps, you should be ok.

+ infinity on what Jeff said. 10 bolt is only good to salvage the axles for a 8.8 project.
So based on what you stated above this is about your only option.
Moser Engineering - Part # 7105 - Performance Girdle - 10 Bolt 7.5" & 7.5625" GM
Summit has a couple that are similar in price and appearance.
I've got a Moser cover like in the link for my 8.8 project. I have to say it is beefy. Looks to be about 5/8" thick compared to the 1/16" the stock covers get.

To answer your question on how to use what I posted above.
Easy - just bolt up like a OEM piece. Only added step is if you look in the picture there are 2 extra hex bolt's that are inside the perimeter. On the inside side you'll see that they have a flat surface like a c clamp has. These bolts are tighten down against the main caps. It's these "studs" that help in reducing deflection and stress on the main caps while the rear end is under heavy load from acceleration.
Honestly it will take you longer to drain the gear oil then it does to instal this piece. It should help make your rear last longer at least in theory. The part will work exceptionally well, it's just that the 10 bolt will fail you in other areas before this piece will.

Jeff and Scott are correct. I wouldn't even waste the money on the cover, but put it towards a new rear. You just cannot build our 10 bolts to handle power. Ask me how I know. I got to the point where I was breaking the teeth off the gears.

I think Spaz would be a better example

I think the cap supports on my Moser aluminum 12 bolt cover are only torqued to 5 ft.lbs. -- that's what the instructions called for.

Just showing him what Moser offers for rear covers... if he were to upgrade to a 12 bolt.

lol i hate you with the lift. the undercarriage looks better than my interior so i guess i should be on the lookout for my POS 10 bolt going pretty soon. any way to tell if it IS STARTING TO GO? i do hear a loud clunk going over bumps and stuff but, its a torsen diff which sucks so i guess i should just leave it? i think the minimum i would have to spend on a new rear end is $2000 between install, finding one used somewhere and shipping This car so far is screwed other than the 3 grand i just spent on putting in a Tranzilla T56 rebuild. the diff cover MUST be worth something.
say the rear end does go, what will go first? if its the posi, whats the best option since a 12 bolt or 9 inch will be way out of the question99 z28 m6 ss clone

My bet is the gears break -- if you have ever had your rear cover open, you'd see a tiny little ring gear that looks like this:

indeed i have not, why..should i be worried about that thingy? i had the cover off and saw the other side..with gears..Torsen. I did do i pretty healthy tire smoker 3000 rpm clutch dump on dry pavement and it spun good in first and hit the rev limiter for a second (sure hope we have rev limiters in our cars factory). left two not so black patches so i wasnt really trying, i was just making sure posi still worked.
when i go around a corner or drive in a circle, should i be listening for any noises???

If you pegged the rev limiter (yes, they do have them), that is how you bend push rods. So, be careful with that.

with regular tires you shouldn't have to much issues, it's when you have drag radials and launch at 4000 rpm that you're likely to blow up the rear, unless you're Spaz. He can look at a 10 bolt and it will die.
Damn Crop, makes the 10 bolt look puny
