The thing is that it's a good beginner pistol to teach basics and accuracy but is piss poor in knock down power. I know from experience in very close proximity.

In that case I would use my Colt .45 1911. Lots of knock down power and very reliable.

I recently sold my M9, as the grip was just slightly too large for my hands. Now I'm carrying the Ruger sr9c.

Problem with that was that we were not allow to bring private weapons into theater.

Shame. The government should know that one size (type) does not fit all needs. Myself, I can hit just about anything from 30 years in with my Colt but put my wifes 9mm Glock in my hands and I am dead meat. The government just wants to control everything and I guess that may be a good thing since so many lives are on the line.

It comes from being in NATO. I can take any 9mm from any NATO member and load/use them in our pistols. Suppose to make it easier for resupply and price. 5.56 rifles too.

The other things that come from being in NATO, not being able to use modern expanding hollowpoint 9x19 rounds like Federal HST, Winchester Ranger T/B, Speer Gold-Dot, that make 9x19 a reliable proven stopper.

That comes from the laws of warfare that we agreed to after WWII
