wireless home security system, any suggestions?
Thinking of buying a wireless home security system.
I don't have a home phone, I don't want monthly monitoring, and I don't want it to call me. I just want a noise maker when I'm not home.
I looked on a couple sites, and ebay. (ebay being the cheapest)
other sites are compared to about $500 for
keypad
12 sensors (2 doors, 10 windows)
2 motion sensors
1 outdoor siren.
anyone have any input?

Dog - a big dog, maybe two will fit your needs.
Suggest - Dobbie's Rots, or German Shepperd.
Pros - They don't call, will make noise, and if you let them they'll chase the bastards down and eat 'em.
Only negatives - poo, food and lots shedding .
I've yet to see a home security system that can do as much as a big dog that is seen. And I have ADT as a back up to my dog when I'm not home.

I would think sensors and sirens/alarms you could pick and chose and build your own system way cheaper than that. Check out homesecuritystore.com or youdoitsecurity.com to start with. At quick glance, youdoitsecurity has a kit for $150. Its setup to call, but I would think you could just set it on alarm only. Amazon has some stuff, usually cheap, if you know what your looking for. If your electrical savvy, radio shack has a lot of good components to literally build what you need. I've played with dvr and cameras at my house. Fry's is a good source for do it yourself home security also. I purchased my initial dvr there.

I'd suggest that you put a IR sensors only in the room or hallway near the entrances. I had one in the kitchen in case someone entered the sliding glass doors and another in the hallway at the base of the stairs in case someone entered the house and was heading upstairs to the bedroom to steal something.
The only times they went of were when we turned them on to see when our teenage sons would come home late.

Tie the trigger of a 12 guage to a door and point it in that direction. Just don't forget to disarm it!
Actually, I agree with Scott. I had my house broken into. Got a dog shortly thereafter. Pitbull/boxer mix. Then we picked up a fullbred Rott. My friends, who know the dogs and the dogs know them, won't even get out of their cars now until I come out
They are the best security system I've ever owned. That, and the silhouette targets at 400 yards with strategically placed shots in them. Never had a problem. With anyone.
