engine cutting out
ls2 swapped m6 2000 camaro. I went to go out today and got a block away from my house and the car just kind of fell on its face.like the engine just said no, it kept getting power then and shuttering through that until I got back home. any thoughts or help would be appreciated. I've checked o2'sand maf, and it done this before and replaced fuel pump with aftermarket and that didn't help. also the temp gauge it just stopped doing it after 2 months of not driving it and I thought it was fine but apparently not. also the temp gauge freaks out when it starts acting up.

With the risk of sounding too simple ...Hows the battery/charging system?

Still running catalytic converters? Is the SES light on, and if so have you had the codes scanned?
Start simple though and check things like plugs and wires, air filter and so on. Clean the MAF with CRC MAF cleaner and clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner. When is the last time the fuel filter was changed? What mods does the engine have? Has the car been tuned any? Have you checked fuel pressure at the rail to see what it is?
Also, did you swap in the LS2 or did you buy it that way? How long has the car been running this way?Last edited by FinZ28; 07-14-2012 at 05:44 PM.

Good suggestions above. Definately check your ground and battery connections, as well as your pcm connections.

no cats, I've checked every connection I can find, fuel filter was changed when the pump was a couple months ago. so were plugs/wires. filter, maf,tb all clean. had the car almost 4years and had the ls2 swapped in 3 years before I knew what i was doing. its been in the car for 3 years.nothing new has been done before it started this.just did it out of the blue. and I don't have anything to check fuel pressure,I'll try and get ahold of one tomorow. this is my dd and Igotta drive it to work in the morning :/

I read about the"VATS'' (vehicle anti-theft system) from one of the members here...I wonder if your key is somehow not making the correct resistance/or failing somehow? ....Long shot i know

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago and it was a spark plug.... but the SES light came on and the code indicated which cylinder. You said that plugs were changed a couple of months ago. Did you do them? If not, maybe whoever did, didn't change #8. That one is not easy to replace. It was also asked earlier if your SES is on. If it is, pull the code.

replace the coolant temp sender, possibly the pigtail on the harness, if not the PCM is getting a bad connection to the sender. If it's not reading the temp it will cause misfires, erratic behavior, and loss of power

The sender should be located right in front of the exhaust manifold/header on the drivers side head unless it was moved. It's a 10-15 dollar part and relatively easy to swap so i'd start with that and see if it fixes your problem
Snapped a pic and circled the sender.
Try and look past the dirty engine bay

ok so that sensor is there. I left the car running and naturally it did its freakout thing, and the gauge went nuts. so I unplugged the sensor and the car died immediatly and I restarted and it ran fine without it plugged in..just no temp gauge and fans ran constantly. so since I don't have anything fancier than a test light, so how may I check it out. or should I just go get a new one? is that enough to say it's effed up?

Sounds to me like the sender might be faulty. Id try a new one, luckily its a low cost part
