I've had some old chevy trucks' with open diffs and only one 3/4 ton with a rear locker.

I was never a huge truck fan always more of a car person..

The h3 has everything we wanted in a family car plus 4-wheel drive.

Never thought about off roading till I had it in my hands.lol

Engines and parts can be upgraded, so no worries..

Rip everything out of it and it's a sturdy platform to build off of or start with imho..

I really like to type with individual lines,

even though I appear dense doing so.

Face it man, Hummer dealerships closed because no one wanted the body styles. GM being GM, took a great vehicle line and crapped on it. Judging by the posts in here; you don't exactly know the 'meat and potatoes' of your off road wildhorse that's saving Jesus's truck from mud. An off roader with no locker? Soundin more like a soccer ride then ever.

Or the part where it was'nt bought to be the greatest but to haul the family around.

I never intended to take it off roading, it just so happens when I did I had non of the trouble the OP's buddies had..
