PS Pump Problems
Hey guys! I hope everyone is well. I'm having some trouble. A couple days ago, my alternator took a shit. The PS pump has been leaking every since I bought the car a few months ago. So...I replaced it at the same time I did the alternator. Long story short- I can't get this damn pump to stop whining like a little bitch. I put the fluid in, started the car....and it was making noise. So...I raised the front wheels off the ground, and turned the wheels stop to stop to get all the air out. Did this for about 20 min, till I was getting no more air bubbles in the resivior. Started the car (still in the air) and turned stop to stop making sure I was getting no more bubbles. I thought I had it primed, so I dropped the car to the ground and took it for a spin. The damn thing is still whining like a pig. Sounds like it's low on fluid. Am I doing something wrong? I've replaced PS pumps before, and never had to prime them. I've always just put fluid in and go! But not this time. So...what gives? I wanna drive my baby, but I'm afraid of burning up the pump.

Could just be a bad pump. New does not always mean they work right.

I had this exact problem with a 5.0 mustang back in the day and it required changing the rack n pinion to get the new pump to stfu but it might just be coincidence???

Yep I just had the same problem. Did 2 pumps, a belt, and a rack and it was still squealing. Replaced the pulley on the pump and did the idler. So far no issues.

I had a nasty whine as well, changed the two pulleys, two tensioners and belts and luckily that took care of it.
