Lightweight wheels for a daily driver?
I've been shopping around for wheels for my 98 ever since I bought her two years ago.
I'd like to lighten up the rotating masses as much as possible without destroying daily drivability. I don't mind a bit of a rough ride, but I don't want anything too "delicate" or high maintenance. What are you guys using for after market wheels?
I've got C4 replicas on the car now (17x8.5 and 17x9.5). I wouldn't mind going wider or taller, but I do not want a wheel that is "just for show" and adds 10 lbs to the rotating mass. If I'm spending money on it, it should improve the car's performance (that's my philosophy, anyway). An improvement in cruising MPG would also be nice.

Man. I feel like a stalker -just replied to your other thread.
I wanna ride this one because I also want to hear a little about lighter tire/wheel combo's. My rears are 325's. Love them but do want a set of lightweight rears for the track.

C5 magnesium wheels are not that expensive and pretty light.
You could go with c5 z06 speedlines, i believe they are light as well.
How much are you looking to spend?

LOL
A lot of online wheel shops don't bother to tell you how much the wheels weigh... only how many inches and how much bling and chrome and spinny-spinny you can get...
The C5 thin spokes are actually my favorite wheels. Now, are the C5 wheels magnesium from the factory, or are we talking about magnesium "replicas"?
For one-time expenditures, I'm usually not too tight-fisted, but for the right set of wheels, I'd be willing to go up to $1200-ish (might have to shop the used classifieds to get the right deal). I'm just in the research phases of this right now, though. The cheaper I can find a good wheel, the sooner I'd be likely to buy it.Last edited by Naaman; 01-18-2012 at 07:34 PM.
