Black- 2001 Trans am WS6
mustang vs trans am
I have just recently become an owner of a GM product....Throughout my life I was raised strictly Ford.... I am currently the proud owner of a 1978 monarch with a 347 stroker, that is used as my street/strip car. My wife and I were looking for a "fun" dailey driver for her..hoping for a decently priced mustang mach1 .. we ended up stumbling across many muscle cars before deciding to buy a 2001 Trans am WS6 instead. We both love the styling of our new toy but the build quality has me secound guessing myself.. the signal lights failed me within the first two weeks of ownership, as well as slow moving power windows, leaking t-tops and power antennae quirks. The reason for purchasing the car were strictly looks (personaly I think one of the sexiest cars built) and power (Ive read so many LS1 triumph stories) ...But the other day, My dad whom currently owns a 2005 mustang GT asked me to race.. knowing that his 300hp mustang wouldnt stand a chance against my trans am's 325hp and 350lf/lb of torque I happily accepted. we lined up on a remote road just west of town, t-tops were on and the gas tank was about half full..the countdown began, My father and I left at roughly equal reaction times ..leaving a trail of smoke from both sets of tires..He quickly gained a half car length lead on me up to about 60mph..I then began to slowly take over...his half car length lead evently turned into a half a half car length lead for me,up until we shut it down...roughly 110mph...more than suffeciently covering the quarter mile..I was happy with the win,but must say that the mustang surprised the hell outta me. And after giving it some thought, does all the little quirks we deal with everyday really make up for a half a car length faster?

1st welcome to the site & the world of F-bodies.
Yes the F-bodies have quirks, ALL cars do. Some have more then others.
The passenger window is a simple fix. One of sponsors has a fix for the passenger window motor for under $40. Myself as well as many others have done it. It took about an hr & 1/2 to do.
Some other questions about your car:
Is it a M6 or A4?
Your race sounds about right for a stock WS6 (meaning no mods or performance upgrades).
Now the reason you both were spinning and not going to fast is because of suspension. Depending on if you have a M6 or an A4 your gearing was also an issue and stall. What are your plans for the car? This one is important. It will let us know what you're looking for and we can make suggestions on how to get there.
Post back answers to my questions and we'll help.

I agree with SMWS6TA, that these cars all have their little quirks. But I believe you will be very happy you bought a WS6.
The car handles much better then any other car that I know of.
Note: Mustangs run, but Firebirds fly.

I agree with both of Dale, and Scott this car's do have a lil quirks, but you will be greatly satisfy. I mean you beat a car that is 4 years newer, plus you got a 5.7 under the hood with the rite mod's it will be a beast. You already have the look's just slap a set off headers with a ory, a lid with air filter, tune, and some suspension work and you will love it. After that add a cam and you will have a demon
01 z/28, M-6, Heads, Cam, Intake, Block, Full Exhaust, Suspension work, Gears, Clutch, and tune - 430HP & 390TQ
01 T/A A-4, Lid, free mod's, shorty headers, Slp exhaust, msd wires

Congrats on the purchase! One of my best friends runs an '05 Mustang GT at the track -- stock vs. stock two years ago our car was around 7/10ths of a second faster in the quarter.

even with a spun bearing, i wouldnt trade my "in critical condition" bird for a 2005 mustang....or any mustang for that matter...the looks of these cars makes up for any annoying quirks they come with. and if a 05 mustang hung with you that close, either theres something wrong with your car, or you havnt perfected driving it yet.

A stock 3V should not beable to hang that close. I've raced many bolt on 4V cobras and the deciding distance is about what your's was with that 3V. Something seems off

"Only girls play with ponies!"
I have a 2000 T/A with a few mods and I have raced a TON of mustangs over the years and 99% of the time, I smoked them big time (don't judge me, the Surgeon General never said anything about smoking a Ford). However, there was one Mustang that managed to beat me. (I'm embarassed to admit it, but I know when I'm beat) It was a brand new (2011/2012) Mustang GT with heavy modification. The driver smiled and said it was stock, but I ain't stupid, that sucker was probably putting out 600-700 hp at least. That is the ONLY post-1970 Mustang that has my respect...2000 T/A (modified) - SLP Intake, LS6 motor, long-tube Hooker headers, Borla catback exhaust, 19" Luxe LX-1 wheels w/ custom firebird center caps, WS6 hood w/ KITT lights, sequential turn signals, reflective decals, and more...
Future Mods: HID light conversion
Last dyno: ~450hp and 550ft/lbs

I was recently dusted at the track by a new 5.0 with a few mods. The track owner then handed me the keys to the 5.0 and told me to make a pass -- with the owner's permission of course. All I can say is that I was duly impressed. It is a fast car that looks good and runs better. Ford finally got this one figured out.

ehh I'm not a fan of mustangs at all, but I huge soft spot for termis. I know they're mustangs too but I don't consider them so in my book. I hope to own one someday parked right next to my WS6 in the garage.....that way I'll never need porn again.....I can just walk into my garage
