Thermostat
Putting a Meziere Water Pump on my T/A. The Meziere requires a SBC Theremostat. Well, I already got my housing powdercoated, so I didn't want to cut the tabs off to make the Thermostat fit. I ended up cutting the Thermostat itself, and I went a little overboard and cut too far into the plate, as you can see below.
My question is this...will that be fine? The instructions Meziere sent me said to drill two holes into the plate, so the electric pump isn't pushing against a solid plate when the Thermostat is closed.

It will probably be ok from what I can see. Ever use a "fail safe" thermostat in any of your cars?
Also, why not just knock the tabs off? They are on the inside and can not be seen.

A fail safe stat sticks in the open position in the event of failure. Motorad makes them.
And yes, drilling a pair of 3/16 holes in the stat is pretty much normal procedure with me anymore, I do that on everything, ford, chevy, new and old. Much easier to bleed air out of the system among other things.
I also agree with Jeff, knock the tabs off. If you are in doubt, and you are using a standard gen 1 thermostat now, just grab another one. They are cheap.Last edited by Firebirdjones; 08-14-2011 at 02:07 PM.
