    Iowa CCW vs Utah CCW?

In some research, I've been noticing classes being taught around my area for a Utah CCW that's valid in Iowa and many other states. From the looks of it, it seems like a lot more states honor it than they do the Iowa CCW. What my question is tho, alot of the classes are offering the Utah CCW and Iowa CCW together as a package. So what would the advantage of getting both be? Is it required to get both? My main reasoning for the Utah one is because MN honors it and they don't honor the Iowa one. Considering I'm only 35 mins from the MN border, having a valid CCW for MN is important.

Have you looked at Nv out of state? My dad had that one, it has a lot of reciprocity.

    1. get the one for your home state, IA. it helps w/ local recognition and supports the grassroots, ...there are also some benefits to having one from your home/resident state - one example is the federal gun free schools act thing that makes a CPZ w/in XX feet of skrools, but there is an exemption for CCW licenses issued by that state (i.e. an non-resident issued from another state, would not carry that exemption)...

    2. get the UT, or another non-resident license that gets you MN. I think UT requires you take a "utah-compliant" class, and then you have to send in application and other stuff. cost-wise, not sure how much compared to IA?

The cost for either class is $50 if I travel a couple hours to Des Moines, however the permit is $50 for Iowa and $65 for Utah. Locally, the class is $105 for the Utah and $70 for the Iowa. I'm all about saving money if I have to.

i'd still recommend getting your IA one first to get the ball rolling, ... not sure how often you go to MN, ...if not often, then take your time and figure out which non-resident license is your best bet for price and reciprocity..

does MN offer a non-resident?... that might be viable, as IA should also recognize it (i think IA recognizes everybody now..)

Yes, i believe so. You just have to apply to a MN county sheriff.

In looking into it further, I absolutely have to have the Iowa CCW first before I obtain the Utah one. Good news is that I can take both classes for only $50 total. Can't beat that.

well based on the lates posted here http://www.handgunlaw.us/ , i'd say between the IA and MN license you'd get you most everything you'd need for travel in the entire mid-section of the country (north-to-south), and eastern rocky-mtn area... UT doesn't really get you much more, other than some southeast and eastern states... if you can get the MN license w/out paying for another class (like you do for UT), that might be more economical.. keep in mind, above and beyond the UT class, you still have to pay UT's app fee..
