Black- 1999 WS6
99 WS6 Gray Interior-Official name of color?
Hi guys, here's the story:
I am looking for some replacement, brand new, OEM interior pieces. The car in question is a 1999 WS6.
I went on year one AND hawks third gen for some parts and they either list dark gray, and graphite.
I phoned hawks third gen and the girl asked me what color my interior was. "Is it gray or graphite" I was ?? not knowing thinking there was only two interior options. Gray or Tan.
She says to me that there was in fact two grays. The gray and a graphite, as she asked the question.
Now I'm not sure what I need to look for when buying parts. YearOne has parts listed both as gray and some as graphite. I am officially lost.

In '99, Pontiac offered 2 "grey" interior choices on Firebirds:
RPO 14B/14D - Pewter Cloth (std on Firebird / Formula)
RPO 142/143 - Pewter Leather (opt on Firebird / Formula, std on T/A)
Your WS6 came standard w/ leather.
There was also "Graphite" used up thru '96:
RPO 12B/12D - Graphite Cloth
RPO 122/123 - Graphite Leather
By process of elimination, you probably have what Year One calls "grey".

Johnny,
Thank you kindly for your helpful response.
I think its the different vendors using different names for various colors
That throws me off.
Hawks third gen has the center console for our models listed
As "graphite" the part looks identical to the one in my car.
Would you be able to confirm, seeing as you have the same car as me?
I would greatly appreciate it. Ill have a link your way.
Johnny, here's the link. let me know if you think this is the correct part. Much thanks!Last edited by pajeff02; 06-14-2011 at 04:12 PM. Reason: Non-sponsor link deleted.

I bought the Lloys floor mats last month in graphite, thinking it was going to be close to the stock pewter color and it is way off.

Yeah, I put some covers on the front seats when it was new hoping it'd protect the leather. Covers are nearly shot now, almost afraid to take them off to see what the leather looks like underneath.........

That console looks way darker than mine. If the description of Graphite vs Pewter I've seen somewhere is correct (graphite being darker), I'd believe that console IS graphite, but graphite wasn't the color used on the '97-'99s, it was Pewter. So the description seems wrong.

I have a 2000T/A and mine looks black. Whats with all this pewter, dark pewter, graphite. Call burgundy what it is, not magenta??? Kills me trying to figure out all these different colors. Why not keep it simple????

That is because in 2000 Pewter was discontinued and Black replaced it.
Pewter and Graphte are different shades of grey. Lt Beige and Taupe are different shades of tan. If it were left to engineers, we'd be calling them Grey-1, Grey-2, etc. But the marketing folks won't allow that.

Thanks Johnny. And all this time I thought my black was a special order! I'm glad they went to black, even though it's hotter in the summer. Appreciate the info.

Johnny,
would you happen to know if some NOS Pewter leather seat covers are present anywhere?
I know the color has been discontinued all together, but a better part of me hopes something exists......

I did a quick search and didn't find anyone who had OEM seat covers. Your best bet is probably custom covers. Heres a link to an outfit that carries quite a selection of leather colors and could probably make new covers to fit your seats. About the only other alternative is eBay or boneyards for used covers.
