Amazing what a little piece of foam can do... I can imagine if you had taken it to a shop.

That's a bummer... Of course they wouldn't even rebuild it... just take the foam out, call me a week later and say they "fixed" my problem...

I took the Z out for a test drive and the first pull was a second gear pull all the way to 5500, smooth as silk. Then I tried a 1st gear pull and again, strong and smooth. A thrid pull in 2nd gear was consistantly strong and smooth.

I thank everyone for their input and advice and for helping a newbee out with things far beyond his understanding.
Isn't it great when a seemingly big problem turns out to be something simple? Glad I could help

But you're not done yet! Get a can of MAF cleaner, brand name CRC. Follow the directions on the can - very lightly spray the MAF elements. Why? Those elements get hot, that's how they work. There is probably still some debris or a film (from a poor air lid seal or the foam contacting the element) on the element that you cannot see, skewing the readings. You may even pick up some lost horsepower!

Okay will try that. Any advice on how to keep the foam strip sealed to my lid? Any good adhesives that most people like... I'm sure others have had that seal come off before (as of right now, the seal is sitting in my center console).

I spray my engine down maybe twice a year. I worked a Quality Engineer for a connector company that made underhood connectors for the Big 3. The Director of Engineer told me Never put HIGH pressure water on the engine area. Maybe a light spray to remove dust...but that is it !!! I see people that the coin car washing spraying the crap out of the engine..bad... Take you dads leaf blower and blow it dry...just don't do it again...or expect more trouble. good luck
