fuel pump on the way out or just bad gas?
yesterday I filled the CETA up at a Montgomery gas station, there were some guys there working on the tanks, had a hole in the ground and were waist deep, well they only had premium and were selling it for $3.61 a gallon,so I filled up dorve the car sixty miles yesterday and had no issues, this morning we didn't get three miles down the road and the car started bucking and jerking ams when I pressed the gas it would not rev,we pulled over and the car died and wouldn't idle other run, well after about fifteen minutes or so it cranked but ran terrible,we were able to get it home.went to town and got some seafoam and a new fuel filter.changed filter put seafoam in fuel tank and I drove it down the road, started out running poor but after a mile or two it started running good, real good,so we drove it to Montgomery to get some food and now it intermittently runs good and terrible, won't idle at red lights sometimes but runs perfect at other times.so what y'all think...bad fuel or the fuel pump about to go out?
any help would be appreciated.david

hard to judge..
check the fuel pressure, that will tell you weather or not you're pump is acting up.

might have to let a shop do it,I have no desire to lay on the ground and drop a fuel tank.rockauto has a Bosch fuel pump for $342...so I would only have to pay labor.

Though it's not for me, there is always the "trap door" "mod" lol you can do to make life easier..
Took me 3-4 hours to do mine the hard way lol (if you can call it that)..
No special tools are needed so IMHO, anyone with some wrench time, a floor jack and some jack stands can do it..
Even easier on a lift.
Just try to not have much gas in the tank if you do deside to tackle the project..
The link posted is an excellent writeup, wish I had it 2 years ago..
You can't find that kind of depth in a repair manual..

I wouldn't go replacing ANYTHING until you know what the problem is...
Fuel pumps can be had for much cheaper also. The Racetronix kit is around $200.
Check your fuel pressure at the rail. It should be around 55-60psi.

Drove her a few miles just now,ran fine until I got home, started having trouble idling.I really think the fuel pump is giving up oh well,I guess I can't be too upset it has been in there for almost ten years and 216,xxx miles.

No problem.I agree with you,though...no cutting a trap door,I would rather drop the tank.

True.
The hardest part is dropping the damn gas tank and getting it free and out from under the car. I chose to put a new fuel pump in myself when mine went out about a year ago. I saved $400 in labor charges so I couldn't complain. Although, during the process of taking everything apart I was cussing like a sailor.
The trap door method is the lazy way to do it. I would never cut into my car for any reason.
