I hear you. I told a girl that if she gets one where and what she was going to get I wouldnt date her. She didnt get it and now thinks they look so stupid. Her sister gone one on her foot and she said "You have to cover that up at my wedding." Her sister was pissed......lol She made a comment about its pretty and she went off on her about its not pretty, its lame and stupid.
I have dated girls with tats before and honestly I can say I just try not to look at them. There is nothing "individual" about them. It used to be you got one for the army division you were in, or a bike group. Now its because its pretty, or you like flowers, or birds, or you want a tribal but you dont belong to any tribe.......lol
If a girl knew I really didint want her to get it and she got it anyway than it would be over. Like said, she wanted the tat more than she wanted me. Money for a tat or a cam for the car? haha
My girl/kinda not girls sister has one on her foot. Honestly I associate it with trash 99% of the time. I dont mind tats on some people but others they look stupid. Some can be cool if they have meaning but just to get one to get one in retarded in my opinion. Not saying anything bad about any of you guys or gals that have them. They are just not my cup of tea and I most likely will never have one.

Theres a huge difference between a simple tattoo on her feet and then her going on a rampage and getting them everywhere and piercings in ever pierceable part of her body.
That being said its her body, you dont own her. You are being a bitch about it. A controlling little bitch. Argue with her over this, and she'll inevitably come across some guy that loves tats or at least tells her he does, and she'll be bouncin on his cock before ya know it.

My initial response to OP is "jack wagon."
I personally have a sh1tty tattoo high up on my right arm. Even an athletic-cut polo or t-shirt covers it up. I got it when I was going through a tough time in my life after a bad break up. My ex had wanted me to get one (she had one) and I never did when we were together. I got it as somewhat of a "Fvck you" tribute to her a few months after we split.
It was chinese script meaning "balance" and "equilibrium". Take into consideration I left my engineering job one afternoon to get it then returned to work. It has little meaning or significance to me 7 years later and I seldom think about it. At this point, I do not regret it nor favor it...it's just there.
Putting myself in your shoes, if my wife wanted to get one I'd feel the same way. Not because I feel like I own or controll her and her body...more that she's taking this beautiful canvas and ruining it by marking it. What's good for the goose (me) isn't necessarily good for the gander (her) even though I realize it's not fair for me to take this position.
If she had a tattoo when we met I suppose I wouldn't think twice about it. I would have still dated her and we would have still gotten married. Bottom line is I wouldn't think any less of her, but it's my preference now that she keep her slate clean.
My suggestion, wait until it's warm enough for sandal weather. Find a place that does Henna tattoos and have them put her design where she wants it. When it wears off, you need to pay again to have it put back on.
Here's the logic: She's going to get sick of it. Foot tattoos are as trashy (IMO) and tattoos on women's breasts or shoulders. When sandal straps partially obscure them, or they're just barely 'peeking' out, they just look stupid. Now, if she's always barefoot that might be okay, but i think after having a temporary tattoo for three weeks she'll get bored with it and won't go through with the permanent one.
Make this suggestion but don't push it. If your woman is as strong-willed as my wife, you're going to be beating your head against a wall if you tell her 'no'.

wow....
I feel like we're back in 1991.
tattoos are trashy, mostly on women. And its not gay to have a piercing only if its only the left side!

Too much ink on anybody is trashy and ugly to me. I will never understand people who put tattoos on their faces, necks, lower arms, etc, places where they will ALWAYS be visible, forever.
But one or two tattoos on a person in general is ok, on a chick is usually hot to me. Just another form of expression of personality. Not to veer off topic, but the fad I don't understand is that ear lobe stretching nonsense. Those kids that have quarter sized holes in their lobes are gonna look sexy in their 60s for sure...
