remote start
I recently bought an 07 grand prix. The dealer had to get new remotes for it. anyway they gave me remotes with the start button. The car does have the remote start equipment, but it is not turned on. From what I have been told I will need a code from gm. So how do I get this code? Can I program it myself?
Thanks for any help.

Is this a GM remote start system or aftermarket?
If its GM then:
Verify that Remote Start is enabled in the vehicle driver information center (DIC), If Remote Start is not enabled, use the DIC to turn on the Remote Start functionality.

I will try that. Yes it is a factory system. So what were they talking about a code from gm?

I'm not aware of any code numbers. Someone is blowing smoke up your ass. Once its enabled on the DIC, you should be able to remotely start your car by pressing the lock button first, then press and hold the start button for about 3 seconds.
If that doesn't work, check back in here. I'll help you out.

Thanks i do appreciate that. The start function is not enabled, even though the equipment is on the car. I have not been able to mess with it, cause my wife stole it from me as soon as i brought it home.

I tried to enable it and got nothing. The D I C did not show the function. I do know the key fob is working though. When I go through the steps press lock twice then hold start button it will blink the park lights. I'm not wanting to sound like a cheap ass. The dealer quoted me between $108 and $162 to turn it on. Sounds like an hour to hour and half shop rate to me.

I'm wondering if your car didn't come with remote start and the dealer wants to reprogram the receiver module to trick the car into having the system.
If you post your VIN number I can look up your RPO codes and see if it came from the factory with remote start.

Yes it did not have remote start. The thing is though all of them had it from 2005 and up some just were not enabled. From what I have read its in the BCM.

yeah I'm guessing they'll have to reprogram some stuff to make the system work.

Yeah I was hoping I could do it myself. Oh well thanks for the help anyway.
