trying to pick a cam
Im looking to buy a cam for my ls2. Its a dd and i want something thats gonna be good on the street with a noticeable gain/idle
Im looking at the comp cam .224/.230 .581/.588 114 lsa.
Would this be a ideal cam for me?

That's a poplular grind, but too difficult to answer your question. If you run an auto you'll need a converter for that cam.
It should produce plenty of vacuum to run your power brakes with an auto as well. If you really want to get into specifics on what you want out of the car as far as weight, rear gear, converter etc... it would be best to call Comp or several other well respected LS vendors that can spec a cam for you and your particular needs.

Mystic Teal Metallic- 2001 Trans Am
This is the exact cam I installed a month ago. I love it! It has a nice rumble. I have a sound bite on you tube, Check it out. Also my cam card claimed the lift actually ended up .581/.592. This cam also has 4 degree advance. I have an adjustable Borla with headers and in this video it is wide open. I toned it down a lot after the video. Don't forget stronger springs and pushrods. I also went with Scorpion racing roller tip roller rockers. Comp cams will make suggestions on other parts if they are who you are dealing with.

That's actually fairly smooth. Quiet the exhaust down and kick the idle up a tad and alot of people wouldn't even know it's there. I like.

Do you have LT headers or factory manifolds on your goat, also auto or m6 ?
224/230,114 lsa = stock manifolds/shorty headers
IMO, a 112 lsa would give better low-end; Example (224/230 112lsa)
W/LT headers less duration split, or a single pattern would have better low-end, and sound better!
224/228 112lsa , 226/226 112lsa, 226/230 112lsa, 228/228 112lsa, 228/230 112lsa, 230/230 112lsaLast edited by Blue28; 11-21-2010 at 09:39 AM.

FYI, you'll also need a higher stall TC (torque converter) if you have a auto trans.
