subframe connectors & carpet

I was told that I need to take out the seats and pull the carpet back b4 I weld in my UMI subframe connectors. The directions from UMI didnt say anything about it. Do I have to or not??

I've got a different brand but just took it to a muffler shop and had them welded w/o any issues.

i had an exhaust shop weld mine in but they didnt take the carpet out.

Did it burn /melt the carpet at all?

Should be fine connectors should be tied to the sub frames and not any where near the floor pan, Ie thinner material. Which then I could see issues with the carpet and pad.

FWIW Make sure to disconnect the battery prior to welding.
To protect your electronics.
9 times out of 10 you will be ok. But there is still that 1 time.

The subframe connectors are welded to frame, to connect the front frame with the uni-body. The connectors are NOT welded to the floor of the car. As stated, take them to your local welder (muffler shop) and have him weld the connectors in place. There should be no need to disassemble the car such as removing the carpet, seats, etc.

My Subframe connectors also stated in the instructions to remove the carpet before welding and I had them installed yesterday without any carpet removal and everything turned out just perfect. People in here seem to just be thinking of straight bar subframes but mine also tied to the tranny mount ansd floor boards for lateral support so if yours are designed like mine then yes the will be welded to the floorboard but NO i didnt have any problems. Hope this helps

go with an after market adjustable torque arm and have a speed shop dial it in for you. With 500 HP im assuming you have have rear end work done which means that your axle may not be all that stable under your car. you could also try the relocation brackets or panhard bar. Another thing, I have a lil over 500 hp myself and I dont have any wheel hop but I do spin like hell and the only way I am going to be able to solve that it with wider and stickier DR's

Ive got the 2 PT SFC's from UMI. Its the first product i bought from them. I really like their stuff, so i got some of their LCA's and panhard bar, installed that stuff yesterday. Great finish, great fit, great products!

yes ive had 3 different 10 bolts and this is when i was young and had no clue about fabrication for a 12 bolt so now i have a richmond power traxx and it handles great finally but i still have the dam wheel hop im gonna try the panhead rod and the relocation brackets thanks guys

You should be fine leaving the carpet intact. I saw no problems with mine as i used the BMR SFC's. As long as they don't hit the thin floor pan while welding, you should be ok.

The shop I used to weld the UMI connectors in had no such problems. They took their time and had no issues at all. This was in my 98 T/A so the procedure would be the same on your car as well.
