All you need to know about this argument is this.....

The turbo cobalt currently hold the record for FWD cars on the nurburgring.....

    how fast you ask? 8:22

    how fast is that?

ties with the E46 BMW M3

    faster than:

    Lotus Exige S
    Jaguar XKR
    Porsche Cayman S
    Evo VI
    Evo VII
    BMW E92 335i
    Corvette C5

only 4 seconds behind the Lexus IS-F

yeah... i'd take the cobalt in a heartbeat

of course there's a link for the non believers:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...t_Nordschleife

oh and on a side note.... yeah that means this lil chevy DD cobalt would WHIP an F-body on a road course

We all know it far out performs the speed 3 but he isnt buying it to race it. He wants a DD that also has a fun side and IMO the mazda looks better, has a much better interior and has more room. The mazda is a better DD the cobalt is a better performance car.

I'd still take the Mazda. Better built car and better as a DD.

This is no surprise, any car with a solid rear is gonna suck on a road course without a healthy amount of suspension work

I would venture a guess that the Mazda tops it in looks, reliability, mpg, resale value, and has a far better interior.

Sorry, but until just the last few years, GM interiors all appeared to be made from Mayfield milk jug plastic.

Plus the looks of the Monte are extremely subjective. It is a love it or hate it style. Not much in between.

We had a brand new '06 lt automatic that was beyond horrendous in every way, mechanically, comfort, mileage etc. But in this case the cobalt is my choice

easy there ole son, not hatin on your car but a monte ss isnt a far better car in every way. huge torque steer problems, a trans made for a v6 but tied to a ls4=blown trans easy. not to metion that you cant have a manual, the mazda will prolly carry more shit, get better mpg and looks alot better. hell i rather have the cobalt tc over a v8 w-body anyday. sorry

I've driven my brother's '05 Cobalt SS and it was a blast. I've owned a Mazda 3 hatch (not a Speed3) and it was a blast. The latest Speed3 (well 09 I think) was pinned against the WRX and beat it in every category. For a pure DD I say non Speed3 for better fuel cost and easier to live with on rough roads. If you want something to tune I say the '05-07(?) Cobalt SS as you can swap super chargers and get 370hp. Just read the story today over at Hot Rod Magazine. (Too tired to search and add a link) It was on 100 octane, or some three digit number. So on premium it will be less. Chevy has more support in the aftermarket than Mazda.

I could have bought a new 07 cobalt ss for less $ than my 05 monte carlo ss.m/c is much nicer inside, heated leather seats, more room, ect.I don't know squat about a mazda 3.but after almost 4 years in my m/c supercharged ss tony stewart edition I am very satisfied.
