Steel or Aluminum flywheel?

If I got one, it would be a shield not a blanket. The shields are pretty expensive. I know you can't put cost on your legs...feet...life even...just saying they are pricey!

I just threw the blanket up as a cheaper alternative for at least a little protection. It still might not pass tech on a stick car, since they are made for automatic transmissions, but it might give you a little sympathy seeing as how you are at least making an attempt.

By far the blowproof is the way to go along with a block saver plate. Takes a bit to set them up correctly as well. I've never had one that didn't need offset dowels to center it with the crankshaft centerline. Usually no more than .006 runout is recommended.
The blanket however, you can toss on, strap it down and go. Take it back off too if you prefer.

Ok so I have that other thread going about which hydraulics and clutch i should get, and im pretty much set on the Tick adjustable, and the LS7 clutch, but I just can not decide on the fly wheel.

I know both have pros and cons, I like the idea of less rotating mass, which will allow RPMs to to rev and slow down faster, but at the same time, i lose some of my momentum when im not in the throttle. Sometimes I think a lighter flywheel will help my shifts be smother and more consistent, but other times i feel like it will make it rougher

any experience?

You should take a good look at the Yella Terra LS1 Ultralite Steel Billet Flywheel.
I got it about a year ago from New Era Performance (they are site sponsor here) after they highly recommended this flywheel. This fly wheel is "bomb proof" with all the advantage's of less rotating weight (weight 8 lb less then the stock fly wheel) and the strength of a steel billet.
