Part of it is that the bad people are more likely to have children. ("Should parents be licensed?")

I love the Internet, but having kids grow up on it is very dangerous.

The 1960's and the counter-culture hippies brought it all to a whole new level.

The 60's... In the last 2 years they (counter-culture hippies) have gone above and beyond that level.

Kids now a days, my sisters generation so only a mere 2 years younger then me, have no respect for anything, arent adult and their freaking 21 and drinking now, and are complete irresponsible. Kids younger then that, in their teens still are fucking hopeless, they bitch, complain, yell, groan, fight, its bull shit. My gf is 3 years younger then me 20 and her brothers were beating the fuck out of each other the other day and her parents just shrugged. I was like wtf go yank them the fuck apart they shouldn't be fighting like that. I think kids now just don't give a fuck, do more drugs and are generally just all around less responsible then i was at their age.

"Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment."

This is a good quote for this thread, but I disagree.

Same thing here - where there's smoke, there's fire. I'll be asking some different people for more perspective, basically confirmation.

Is there anything that can be done? Restricting kids' access to technology, military service, restoring the family structure? Many of you have under-age offspring or will someday.

That's the same generation as you bro. I dunno what the technical years of separation are but it's a lot more than a couple years. Not that i'm all that old but comparing my gen to todays high school gen is a clear separation. Sooo much has changed from socially to technology wise i'm constantly saying WTF when I talk to my niece that's in high school.

My opinion is that the switch-over is 1979 or so. That said, Generation Y might be more diverse than its predecessors, but too homogeneous in character flaws. In maybe 5 years, we'll have a better assessment of the generation.

i don't have kids myself, but have a couple for studying purposes in my surrounding. friends' and families'. i find that almost everything depends on the parents. too many people don't want to waste too much time on their kids, and that's a huge problem, because that attention and guidence is replaced by the media. morals, values, social behaviour has to be tought by parents, when the kids get into school it's already too late for that.
the parents i know spend a lot of time with their kids, and they seem to come out pretty nicely.

That's an interesting read. Generation Y is pretty pathetic. High unemployment, mostly liberal, elected Obama, switch jobs often, live with parents still, etc.

    Fuckin losers.

The unemployment and job switching aren't necessarily the fault of the worker. In times past, a dedicated worker could spend 40 years with one company, and be considered a valued employee. Nowadays, employees are now considered 'expenditures'. In my industry, there is an average turnover rate of 3-5 years. And much of that is due to:

    -The companies sending jobs overseas

-The companies eliminating positions each year to save salaries and meet quarterly/yearly stock projections.

-The companies firing older, experienced personnel in order to higher younger, inexperienced (but cheaper) personnel.

I would be content to work the rest of my career with one company, but it will never happen. And I have no control over it, it is not due to any deficiency on my part.

    Example:
I go to pick my daughter up at school Thursday. I pull in the parking lot and this woman is putting her daughter in her child seat next to me as her daughter gets out about 5 minutes before mine ( different age group). As she walks around to put her in I smile and wave her on because there wasn't room for our doors at the same time. She buckles her daughter in. About that time a buddy walks up and starts talking to her so she sits there with her door open and carries on a conversation with this chick while I wait in the truck. After a couple minutes I just open my door like I'm gonna bash it into hers. She says "Oh.....sorry." WTF??? Did you not pay attention to the fact that I waved you on being courteous to you? Are you stupid or do you think that no one else needs to be anywhere. I run into this type stuff all the time. Just people being oblivious or stupid. This lady was probably 45 years old so ignorance is not just a problem young people have. Actually, young people are just inexperienced and not ignorant. Older people tend to just be ignornant.
Expecting a man to read your mind is ineffective .....expecting a woman to read your mind is plain hopeless!! lol

While Dr Spock had been working and writing for decades prior to this, I believe it is really about this time that his theories start gaining mainstream acceptance. I'm telling you, it's all his fault. His influence is subtle and insidious...

When I was a kid, I was raised to respect my elders. This is why I get along so well with folks in their 50s and older. And when I was growing up and stepped out of line, I GOT MY @$$ beat. My mother is an army brat and her motto was "NO REWARD FOR FAILURE!!" I wasn't rewarded for getting bad grades/acting out at home/in public but I was rewarded when I was good and got good grades. Nowadays, "please, thank you" or "sorry" have gone out the window. It is sad. Now "whatever" has become the norm.

Folks don't have any dignity or respect anymore whether young or old.

Generation X also was tagged as a "loser" generation, due to underemployment and job switching, largely due to the economy. Where Y differs, I believe, is instead of being depressed about that or society's morals disappearing, its members don't care. They tend to be glibly happy - video games, sexting, anything but deep thoughts and feelings. Boomers, Dr. Spock, or whoever is to blame deserves
