Some noise already?!
I recently got my rear end rebuilt and I waited the 500 mile break in period, about 600 actually. I didn't romp on it or anything I drove it nice. So lately today while driving to class I hear it making a little noise. Is that normal for a newly rebuilt rear end? I have a feeling I'm 100% screwed.

Gear whine is usually the result of not properly being set-up or shimmed...
Too much backlash or improper pinion depth normally....
With that said though, some gear manufacturers are noisier than others.

Under warranty?
Factory?
If some day in a future u want to change the ratio. 4.10s are better.
I went for 3.73s. Not a big difference from 3.42

I have a A4 and replaced the factory 3.23's with a set of GM's the first time and they made a little noise and now o have motive 3.73's and they make a little noise. Richmond gears are the loudest usually. I replaced the gears in my 5.0 8.8 with factory Ford 3.55's and they make almost no noise. The GM 10 bolt rears seem to be more prone to a slight whine after you swap out the factory gears compared to a 8.8 mustang rear so I wouldn't worry about it.

Richmonds are loud but not unbearable. Sounds to me like it was setup wrong if it's that's noticable, especially on a stock gear. Take it back and have them recheck the backlash and set it up right, especially if it's still under warranty.

I'm taking it back to the shop. It has become much louder than it was. I'm so sick of these repairs.

I guess the pumpkin casing? Hopefully that will be the fix. Student loans are about to buy me a 9".

Sorry to hear it. It shouldn't make noise at all. Most shops have flat rate paid mechanics that won't or can't take the time to set up gears properly. Get it in and get it out type of thing.
I rarely see anyone use a pinion depth gauge anymore, and most throw the new gears in with the old pinion shims and think it'll be okay. Doesn't work that way.
I hope that's not what you ran into, and hopefully they are a stand up shop that'll make it right.
