WOW! I thought I was the only person who knew who Soft Machine was. Then again you're European. Most Americans have no clue.

And King Crimson belongs there when a lot of bands who have been inducted don't.

soft machine is nothing i frequently listen too. but their drummer john marshall is a super nice guy. (and an awesome musician.)
you're probably right about king crimson, but those were just examples of influential bands of that era.

Soft Machine, Curved Air and Triumverat are 3 bands that were part of the prog rock scene in the 60's-70's that were influential on me but that most Americans never heard of.

    · Bon Jovi - Is he rock or pop?
    · Chic - Who?
    · Neil Diamond - Really
    · Donovan - Who?
    · Dr. John - Who?
    · J. Geils Band - Who?
    · LL Cool J - Really, I thought this was rock&roll, not hip hop
    · Darlene Love - Who?
    · Laura Nyro - Who?
    · Donna Summer - See LL Cool J remark
    · Joe Tex - Who?
    · Tom Waits - Who?
    · Chuck Willis - Who?

    Performers:
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.

The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of more than 500 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes - and more than 50 percent of the vote - are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year.

    Non-Performers
Songwriters, producers, disc jockeys, record executives, journalists and other industry professionals who have had a major influence on the development of rock and roll.

    Early Influences
Artists whose music predated rock and roll but had an impact on the evolution of rock and roll and inspired rock’s leading artists.

immediately when I think Rock Hall of Fame, these bands should be in right away.
(because they altered the course of music)

-kinks (discovered distortion by cutting their speakers)
-beatles (cant stand them but they are crucial to the evolution of music)
    -Elvis
    -chuck berry
without them we would NOT have the following:

    -led zepplin
    -jimi hendrix
    -black sabbath
    -rainbow
-judas priest (leaders of new wave british heavy metal)
    -ozzy
    -metallica
    -nirvana (sadly)

bon jovi, beastie boys, and the rest of that BS list did not alter the course of music, they sold albums thats it.
the rock and roll hall of fame here in american has a tendency to highlight only american music.

also, ive been there, and was quite underwhelmed.
