glasspack
Im just curious as to how you guys fell about glasspacks. I had one on my 2000 formula and i loved the sound. It had a mellow rumble at regular driving and really got aggressive when i stepped into it. When i took it to a dyno day at a local shop, everyone was askin what kinda muffler i had and sayin how it sounds so bad ass. Im wondering if there is any downfall to having a glasspack compared to the usual mufflers used such as magnaflow and whatever else is common. I never see anyone on here use glasspacks.

Imho, glass packs sound best when close to the header collectors.. Further down the line not so much.. Too much crackle and pop..

After the headers the slp loudmouth was too loud for me, so being low on funds I got on summit website and closely matched the overall size to their glasspack. Now after the cam install its wayyyy loud again. Its very raspy on the street. My poor neighbors.

I wonder if glasspack has power advantages since it's a strait thru design.

i have an 83 chevy blazer with a N/A 6.2 diesel i had true dual 2.5" strait pipes from the manifold back ....got pulled over so i had to put on mufflers so i did 18" glasspacks and they hurt the performace alot but i still think they are better than a conventional style muffleer

if you want a real strait through design just get a LM1. it's leteraly just a hollow pipe with "slp" stamped on it. that's why it's so loud because essentialy your driving around with no muffler, which is why instead of wasteing money on a LM1 cat back I cut off my muff with a sawsall and got a turn down tip. it sounds exactly the same as the LM1 set up lol

David Vizard wrote about the glass packs in his book "How To Build Horsepower" and if they are the kind which has tine louvers or small cups that rise into the flow, they can kill your flow. On the other hand, if you install them backwords, they can flow pretty good. I believe most glass packs today have the small slits instead of the cups.
I prefer the sound of a two chamber flowmaster myself, except I hate the noise in the cabin when cruising on the freeway.
