Introduced in 1995, the Series II is quite a different engine. Although the stroke for the 3.8 L engine remained at 3.4 in (86 mm), and the bore remained at 3.8 in (97 mm), the engine architecture was vastly changed. The deck height is shorter than the Series I, reducing weight and total engine package size. This required that the piston connecting rods be shortened 1 in (25 mm), and the crankshaft was also redesigned. A new intake manifold improved breathing while a redesigned cylinder head featured larger valves and a higher compression ratio. The result was 205 hp (153 kW) and 230 lb·ft

I've read on many accounts that the PI 2V's make around 300tq, not at the rear wheels of course.
Again, when both cars are basically stock, I personally just do not see him beating a PI 5 speed GT, even if the driver of the GT is not that great, they just seem too quick for his car. I think a bone stock SN95 NPI head GT would be a better match for him.

Man Smittro, I'm just not seeing it being a close race for some reason!
3.8 Firebird-200hp 225tq (not 100% sure on the Firebirds numbers, I'm sure you will chime in and correct me since you REALLY know your stuff when it comes to these GM V6 series motors.)
2V GT-260hp 300tq
I don't think it's uncommon for the GT's to put down more at the rear wheels than the Firebird makes at the crank, and it's not like the GT is 600 pounds heavier than the Firebird either, I just see the V6 getting walked really, really hard. Like it won't even be a close race, maybe a New Edge V6 stang, or a 96-98 GT would be a better match though!

He may very well get beat.. But there's no reason not to give it a shot really.. I don't follow Mustangs much but I've had many close races with GT's.. Not saying I was winning but none stock ever slaughtered me yet.. I've always got the hole shot too.. I usually start pulling as both cars seem to be reaching top gear.. Pulling but still behind some.. I've been door to door with 5spd GT's and poor shifting on the drivers part.. I have seen 3800 get wiped out by GT's and I seen more close ones than royal beatings because of the drivers.. I'm also just guessing, the GT will out weigh the 3800 Bird, which would help make up for the extra torque of the GT.. When I was kid I blew the doors off a 5.0gt with a dam 5spd Baretta 2.8 because the GT owner could'nt or did'nt shift fast just assumed he'd smoke me..
All I can say to the OP is learn to shift, you'll be surprised whom you'll beat with a little old v6..Last edited by Smittro; 09-13-2010 at 06:49 PM.

a stock GT, that isnt the Premium package, will still be lighter or as light as a 6 cylinder Fbody. Fbodies are a bigger car.
Sadly the auto GT's are dogs. They are just a v8 cruiser car, very very streetable and old people friendly.fbody autos are totally different animals.
