Depends which model. Stock vs. stock, an LS1 car should be able to take every model WRX, including the STI.
The older "bug eyed" WRXs are a joke. They average mid 14s from the factory. I've seen all motor Civics walk them from a roll. Nothing to worry about here.
The STI models can pack a decent punch. They usually can get well into the 13s stock, and modded with the stock turbo can get into the low 12s with a good driver. You might beat some, you might lose some. From a roll, you should be able to pull them on the top end.
The newer base model WRXs, have a bigger turbo charger and are set up pretty well. They can run almost as good as the STI with a good driver. High 13s is not uncommon in stock form. Modified, with the stock turbo, they can run 12s pretty easy.
When it comes to the newer WRXs (base and STI), it's all in how the car is setup and driven. A poor setup with no tuning will yield a shitty performing car. A poor driver will yield even shittier performance. Contrary to popular belief, there is some skill involved launching a 4 wheel drive car. If done right, they can get out of the hole very well. Most of the drivers you'll run into on the street can't drive for shit. The majority of the time, the LS1 car will come out on top.
.... my 2 cents.

I raced one a while back. I beat him by about 3 cars from 65 to 120. And, then he tried to do a flyby and I shut him down and pulled a car. He had something done to it though. Exhaust for sure, BOV and I dont know what else.
It was also a newer one. 06 or newer. Not a bad looking or sounding car. Lesser of 2 evils(the other evils being HonDUHS, and Toyoyos). I wouldnt own one but ill give credit were credit is due...Last edited by PAT-LS101; 08-01-2010 at 07:13 AM.

you put exhaust, cams, and and other bolt on BS with a tune. those things will run like a raped ape..i drove one and almost bought one that had those mods...made my dads GTO look like a prius 04+ and only STI's the seriously modded WRX's can be a threat....but that requires A LOT of money

stock they dyno about 230-240 whp some have been higher,so once you get into 3rd gear or higher there done. The fixed up ones are definitly fast and not hard to get these running 300+awhp with minor bolt ons.

My best friend has an 06 sti heavily modded... Stage 2 block, bigger turbo, meth inject... plus all the amenities. He beat me. Says he's putting down about 400awhp maybe more. You'll never know what someone has done without actually running, so be careful out there!!

i jus bought a 05 sti and my trans am ws6 just exhaust, and mail order tune will walk it but awd is amazing!! boost is cool lol, trans am as the low end torque, if the ta would hook like the sti it would take it, but the sti is bone stock down to the air fliter

An 2005-07 sti pulled up next to me about a month ago and from about a 30 roll we were neck neck the whole time until I hit third and then I started pulling on him. Not sure what mods he had were but he at least had exhaust. One of my friends has a 03 wrx with a straight pipe, airfilter, running something like 15-20lbs of boost on stock turbo and a front mount. That race was about the same as the sti except I pulled the wrx a little harder in second then in third I had him by about a car and a half. My mods at the time were only a lid and slp cat back
