DR Comparison: MT E/T vs. Nitto NT05R
So I've been trying to find and gather more info about the new Nittos, and can't really seem to come up with much. I've decided to buy some tires for my C6 wheels that I'm stuck with now, and have since been torn between the two...
I know the Mickeys are an AWESOME drag radial, that hook exceptionally well with great street manners (dry conditions). The only thing that gets me, would be if I were to be doing any spinning to clean 'em off for hard launching on the streetthat they seem to wear rather quickly. I'm sure this would hold true for any and all drag radials on the market, but again, I'm looking for input.
I'm not even questioning how well either tire does in wet conditions, as I am one that beleives no DR should be "put to the test" in wet conditions. I'm simply looking for how well the Nittos hook and the wear condition of their new DR does in comparison to the Mickeys.
Anyone have any first hand knowledge/experience of the 2?

Subscribed. I am interested in seeing if anyone is running the new Nitto also.
I am thinking that the M/Ts will hook better though based on the comparison to the 555r's. I know Nitto says that the NT05R's are a leap forward, but the 555r's suck at the track lol. They are pretty great on the street though.

Nitto's will last longer on the street, and hook up decently at the track.
M/T's Hook up great at the track but the road tears them up because they are a softer tire.
I personaly ran Nitto's for a few thousand miles but get frustrated on weekend track trips with lack of grip. I switched to the Mickeys and they did awsome at the track but didnt last very long driving on the main road. Now i have a set of slicks for the track and radials for the road.

I would go with the NT01 over the NT05 due to these reasons.
NT01: Treadwear 100/Traction A/Temp A/Speed rating Z
NT05: Treadwear 0/Traction B/Temp B/Speed rating R
The NT05 should hook a lil better maybe due to the treadwear but Speed rating R = 106 mphThats horrible IMHO. And whats with the traction B
I'm going to go with the NT01 and will let everyone know how it hooks when I get them on

I'm wondering the same thing. I'll be getting drag radials next and am torn between MTs and the Nittos. I like the look of the newer Mickey Thompson drag radials but they don't make those in a 275/40/17.

Red- 1998 camaro
I have and still use both, i have MTs on my camaro, and the nittos on my mustang. the first set of nitttos i put about 9000 miles on them, and thats with a little more than 30 runs down the strip, however they wouldnt hook up very well at the strip. The MTs lasted a little over 5000 miles and had about 20 runs on them, but they hooked up perfectly every time. so it comes down to what you want, if you want traction go with the sticky mickeys. if you want longevity go with the nittos.

Red- 1998 camaro
the nittos are on the mustang and its a five speed. they would always break loose weather i dumped the clutch or took off at low rpm. i have the same size MTs as 67CamaroRSSS and they work perfectly. both cars have mild mods and both have 4:10s in the rearend. Im by no means a tire expert i can only tell you my expierence with the two.

Ran both DR's... You are right Master... It seemed like half the tread was gone after one good track day. Mickeys do not like to be cleaned off for very long. They are very soft... Excellent grip though. Nitto's are no better than the BFG street tires I had. I had 305/35/18 MT and they were extremely tall. Made my car sit funny with the ass in the air. Didnt like that. I have them on my Avatar if you can tell.

Proabably went a little far on my Nitto talk down... I just hated that I wasted so much money on them, kinda biased to anything except Nitto haha...

I don't leave the MT's on my car because they don't last long. I basically swap tires when I go to the track.
I had MT ET Streets (same compound as the DR's but were bias ply type) on my 67 at one time. They lasted about 3,000 miles in normal use.
