Schrader Valve?
I am installing a fuel pressure gauge on our car. The sender attaches to the schrader valve on the fuel rail. I thought the adapter might have a pin to depress the valve, however, it is simply hollow on the inside.
Does the valve simply unscrew similar to a tire valve stem? I have never disassembled a schrader valve before and obviously do not want to create a high pressure fuel leak messing with it. Do I need a special tool?

Mine just unscrewed like a tire valve does. I would teflon tape the connections and you shouldn't have a problem. I have a couple of small screwdrivers with the removal tool in the end of them. Most autoparts stores carry them too.

Your on the right track Jeff. I have a stickied thread in the general help area that will show it more if need be.
Just a regular schrader valve tool, you can get them practically anywhere...ChinaZone, Murrays, NAPA etc. Just stick it in there and turn and it will remove that valve.

I just looked over that old thread I mentioned, no real information in there dealing with this.
Yes, it unscrews just like a tire valve. Just push in before unscrewing it to release the pressure and your golden.

I received my adapter today to hook the sending unit to the schrader valve. It is essentially an aluminum tube nut that threads over the schrader valve. My new question: How is this thing supposed to seal?
There is no rubber seat, however, the inset is beveled to match the tip of the schrader valve. To me, it seems that there should be an o-ring or something inside the tube nut. I just don't think the bevel is supposed to be the sealing surface as it isn't a flare setup.
I really do not wish to burn our car to the ground...

Pics of the adapter. The inside view is the side that attaches to the schrader valve.

I would think a rubber o-ring may degrade over time being exposed to gas. I just used teflon tape - Blue Monster brand - on mine and I've never had a leak. Just tighten it well and check for leaks when you prime the pump without starting the car.

Looks to be. You could use the paste as well though. I wonder why they advise against the tape?

Never really thought of it that way - makes sense though. I never really put that much on, and if it felt to tight I'd always take the fitting back off and restart. Never had a problem with mine, but I guess companies have to be careful with liability issues - especially when their product is going on a lawyer's car!

I'm sure they could care less. They generally have their own lawyers.
