Cops have told me to either:

a-kick the person's feet out from beneath them

or

b-knock them on their @ss.

The suspect needs to be kept away from an officer's person/firearm. The LEO in the vid will most likely be suspended without pay and like others have posted, there will be civil suits/demonstrations, but the two ladies will likely have the Jaywalking charge upped to Disorderly Conduct, Assault on an Officer, Obstructing an Investigation. Unless they make a plea and get off on ROR/lesser charges which would be total B.S.

I would have tazed them before it got to that point, but that's just me. I wouldn't hit that woman even I got pushed back 2" and there was obviously no life threatening moves.

only officer on the scene with the situation escalating...no way of knowing what could have happened next had he not regained control. officers must make decisions in split second intervals. for this officer (and i'd wager many others) this was the best and quickest option. i've got no problem with what he did.

it'll be investigated, the department will issue an apology, he will go on leave during the investigation, and will come back to the department with nothing more than a note in his file regarding the incident. i don't see much coming of it since it was all caught on tape.

she was too close to the officer to make the tazer a viable option for self defense. there needs to be at minimum 10 feet between the officer and the suspect in order to effectively get the tazer out of the holster and operated against the individual. the vast majority of police tazers shoot out two lines with barbed hooks on the end. if you don't get a good spread across the body you won't take the individual down effectively enough.

there is usually an option to use a taser's tip, you don't have to shoot out the prongs
how about a baton in such close situation?

again i would say that she was so close to the officer that it would have made it too difficult to get it out of it's holster...plus it would cause considerably more damage to a person than a punch to the face...those batons pack a fuckload of a whollop to them.

The bottom line here is when a law enforcement officer is giving direction or orders. Comply to them. If he/she is wrong deal with it in a civil manner or complain to his/hers superiors.
Law enforcement should also weigh out the issues. How important was it to call that person back for jay walking?
Should the person have responded when called ? Of course. But she didn't. If a person wants to cross in a middle of an intersection and possibly get killed by a driver. Their choice.
Its like law enforcement in a car chase and the offender is driving reckless, possibly might hit and kill children. You have to ask, if that reckless driver kills someone who is responsible? Technically the offender.....but the citizens, media and the dead childrens parents will blame the police.
Law enforcement is very technical in todays time. The seriousness of a crime has to be considered in a way that everyone is protected.

Guess you never tried to handcuff someone who didn't want to be.

Thats why you see suspects being taken to the ground.

Plus with all those people around you can't focus 100% on the person.

I could'nt be an Officer of the law.. I'm to millitant.. I say's mace the whole crowd, shot the suspect.. Noone saw nuttin'...

My Dad used to own a lether shop. There was this one cop that used to work crowd control at football games in a ruff part of town. He had Dad make him a special holster for his "hair spray" sized can of pepper spray. If a crowed was getting to big or unruly he would tell them ONE time to disperse. If they didn't he would spray the pepper spray in the air. It didn't take long for the crowd to seprate then.

The shooting part was a joke, but he was alone with an upredictable crowd with 2 people becomming increasingly hostile, and violent.. Time to start spraying imho..

Are you for real, give me a fucking break. As said already, the tazer was not an option. Personally I'd rather take a jab at the face than be tazed anyway. This "woman" as you call her put her hands on the officer during an investigation. Nuff said. I'm glad this was caught on tape, the vid proves he did nothing wrong.
