HELP!! My SS Won't Start !!!
Hello All,
I have a 2001 Camaro SS, Black, 6-Spd, 74,000 miles. I seem to have a problem with the factory Alarm System. Yesterday, a flashing "SECURITY" light appeared on the dash, and nothing happens when I turn the key. The battery is fine. The Lock-Unlock, and Arm-Disarm function of the remote still works. Has anyone has this happen before? I have never seen anything like this. It has been raining for the last 2 days (The car has been outside), and I know sometimes moisture can play havoc with the electronics. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Tom

Sounds like a problem with the VATS. There is a thread on disabling it. Might even be a sticky. Also you could try checking the little chip on your key to make sure it's clean.

Thanks For Your Feedback Knight,
I did do a little searching here after I posted this thread. My key is not dirty, and I even tried my spare key with no luck. It seems from what I have read, that the ignition cylinder may have gone bad, and is no longer reading the pellet in the key. I wish there was a way I could prove this is the issue.
The strange thing is that the last time the car worked, I started it up, then I noticed the flashing "Security" light. After I shut the car off when I got home, it then would not start.

Same here. Why would I expect my battery to go south? I have read many topics on this site about my issue, and not a single one mentioned any battery repercussions. Please explain. Thanks.

I don't know of any reason this would affect a battery.

I had this happen to me while I was 10 miles from home at school. Had to get a flatbed truck to take my car home. Sucked.

Looks like PFM will not be responding to our question......I think we all know the answer, the little resistor won't be Viciously Assaulting my battery any time soon.....:-)

Ut Oh !
Hi All,
Yesterday I went to start my car up, and the "Security" light was on again. The car would not start. I went inside to grab some tools to remove the lower dash, and when I came out, the car started right up. The "Security" light was NO longer lit.
I removed the dash anyway to check on the connection. I do have the VATS disabling Resistor/Connection tightly wound with Electrical Tape. I do also know some prefer Soldering the connection, but I wanted to make sure everything was OK before considering Solder. It is a very solid connection, and I saw no way the resistor could have become disconnected or loose, even temporarily.
Now the real questions: Has anyone ever experienced a temporary reversal of the VATS disabling process? Is it possible for the resistor to go bad?
Obviously, I am now carrying extra resistors in the car, as well as the necessary tools, electrical tape, etc., to remove the lower dash and access the connection. Any comments are MOST welcome!!! Thanks,
Tom
PS....This coming Thursday, I am leaving on a 1000 mile round trip (5 day Mini Vacation) with the car, and this is worrying me just a bit.Last edited by NastySS; 06-06-2010 at 05:54 AM. Reason: Forgot to add information
