    Sadly now demodded :(

    Racer X? Don't forget I'm old and originally from Los Angeles...

    Of course I know who Paul Gilbert is. Master of the arpeggios on the guitar...

    And I listened to KNAC all the time...

    And I got to see him play at the Roxy when I went to see a friends band play. I was an instant convert.

    Do you mind if I ask how old you are?

    While I'd heard them get some airplay on 105.5 KNAC (motto: If it's too loud then you're too old! - I was in my 30's at the time), I got to see Racer X play at the Roxy in 88 (87? 89? I forget. Late 80's anyway). They were playing on the same day my youngest sisters boyfriends band (Missouri Fox) was playing. Like I said I was an instant convert. Back in the day you could go to most clubs on the Hollywood Strip any day of the week and see 4-5 bands play 1 set each.

    Like I said I'm originally from the South Bay area of Los Angeles (Gardena born and bred - Go GHS!). Doing the Hollywood Strip was a weekly thing, especially as I was playing in a band.

    LOL! Racer X...

    Now there's a blast from the past! I use to listen to all there stuff along with just about all the other shrapnel recording artists.. cool.

    Now this guy isn't exactly a shredder so to speak but man....His playing has always inspired me...

    Been playing 22 yrs now and I try to throw my heart AND balls into my playing like Gary... Still got some more wood shedding to do though...

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWp-Mazmf88"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWp-Mazmf88[/ame]

    And then...no matter what singer he has in his band,or how many people have taken what he started to new levels,I think the most original,influential,genuine,inovative and creative guitarist to hit the planet would have to be...

    As cliche' as it might be...

    My hero on the guitar Edward Van Halen... (as if you didn't know by my avatar what was coming... )

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_lwocmL9dQ"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_lwocmL9dQ[/ame]

    Yes many players after him took technical ability to levels way beyond what he started and sure,there are people that have taken music theory to levels that probably leave him scratching his head in confusion....But, they in my opinion...still can't touch him.

    Someone mentioned Paul Gilbert as the master of arpeggios? While I love Paul and his playing I gotta give that title to Frank!

    Here he is with Chick Corea... SMOKIN'!!

    Oh no didn't mean the drumming specifically.

    I meant that Gary wouldn't be considered as part of that genre but,he is one of my faves... Sorry for any confusion.
