Hard to believe what is really stock anymore. After all it is the internet.

Don't mean to imply it isn't possible though. Any car that can trap at least 102 mph has the capability to run high 12's. I see it in stock eliminator all the time.

High 12's at relatively low mph brings back memories....my first ever 12 second pass was in my old 88 5.0 Coupe (stick car) - 12.99 @ 103 mph.

Nice, The cars I have that run low MPH's like that just aren't setup to 60 foot well enough to take advantage.
Running my 70 Formula in pure stock always trapped at 102 mph and some change. But I ran 13.60's consistently. It's just not going to 60 foot with the limitations set for the class.
Stock F70-14 bias ply tires, stock converter (in my case a 1,600 stall) and I still run the stock 3.31 gears. With the 400 turbos 2.48 first gear and no stall converter on stock rubber, it's not setting any 60 foot records
Gear changes are allowed, but that would only tax the tiny bias ply tires more, and make it more of a challenge to get moving.
As it is it's tough anyway. With a fine line to walk between hook and haze. 1.99 is the best it's done, but 2.05's are more common. Which is still a feat in itself considering what all the new cars with modern rubber and large tires are doing.

Ya, those bias ply tires are a HUGE liability. Slicks and a decent converter would have REALLY woken that care up big time.

I had no such restrictions at the time (early 1989), as I was just having fun with my new 1988 5.0 Coupe. It had a few basic bolt-ons, 3.73 gears, and slicks. I've still got the time slip somewhere. Don't remember exactly what the 60 ft was, but I think it was a high 1.7 or so.

Those days were a lot of fun. Such lightweight cars just didn't break as much as the heavier (and much more powerful) ones do today.

i hear ya-- but running a trap speed around 106 that car is either bone stock or very close to it.

You are right. The MPH is one of the biggest things I pay attention to when it comes to timeslips and comparing. It tells me what the car is capable of. An indicator of HP which helps in tuning as well.
106 mph is a piece of cake to run 12's with.

Well I guess I'm old school too being as I was ALMOST old enough to drive when the Mustang 5.0s were the "cats pajamas" on the streets. And yes I thought the Vanilla Ice video was cool.
I also think it's great that they put the "5.0" badges on the 2011 however, I still like the new Camaro. It's more unique to me. The retro Mustang has worn out it's welcome. Too many of them driving around. Just my 02, not that it matters....

More specifically, it's an indicator of power/weight ratio. The car with the better ratio is technically the faster car. You take two cars with the same trap speed and run them side by side from a roll to eliminate traction issues, they should be door to door the whole time.

The 2011 gt has variable valve timing, it has v-tech yo, as do most performance DOHC engines these days.
