Indeed, financially the '79 might make more sense since 3rd gen values are on the way up while 4th gen values are currently on a decline.

that isnt correct...eventually the price of the late 4th gens will go up. 79's didn't rise for many many years..our cars (4th gens) are still relatively new..and 98s being the first year of the last revision of the firebirds will be worth some coin ..especially in stock form.

    It has a big wing!

Wow,I'm kinda surpsrised at the negative "hillbilly" comments for these cars...

I understand prefering your 4th gen but,I guess the 2nd gens aren't for everyone...

NOT trying to insult anyone at all but,I wonder if it's an age issue when I do hear negative comments about the 2nd gens??

I remember being a kid ( 8 or 9yrs) and was CRAZY (still am!) about the 2nd gens... Not just the typical Bandit movies but any time I would see one... Hooper,Sleep Walkers,Blue Thunder,Detroit Rock City...etc

Just awesome car's in my opinion (the later models of course lacked power but, were still very cool to me).

As to wether I would trade? I have owned 3 2nd gens and it would really have to depend on the condition of the car to trade my Hawk for it... But a CLEAN CLEAN very original 4spd in Bandit or Nocturne Blue?? I would definately be getting an itchy trigger finger! ( I tried to trade my 00' SS once for a 79' Nocturne Blue TA with 42K miles but,the guy wouldn't go for it... Oh well!)

    Damn now I want one......

very much so. the younger crowd didnt grow up with those models so they dont speak to us (if that makes any sense) obviously there are some exceptions...the first gens speak to almost everyone ..but then the 2nd and 3rds are a more select crowd ....nothing against those gens...they just arent my "style" or taste. similar ...the gnXs ..i love those cars..but i could never own one becuase it just doesnt quite fit my personality and style
