I live in Northern Virginia and commute into Washington DC everyday. I just bought a used Civic Hybrid for my commuting car, since it is allowed to drive in the HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes without having three people in it like all other cars in the HOVs. Saves me at about 1/2 to 1 hour each way. I had been picking up 'slugs' or people who are willing to ride with you for free into the city, but it is always a pain in the ass, especially in my 99' Z28 Convertible. Getting adults in and out of the back seat of my Z is interesting to say the least.

Plus I'll get 45 mpg on 87 octane (more than double the mileage from the Z) and rack up the miles on the Hybrid. In two years when my daughter is old enough to drive, it will be the perfrect car for a kid to learn on. Slow, Heavy, safe (airbags everywhere). No one would be tempted to race around in a Hybrid - I mean come on - how ridiculas would that look!!
Neil, you answered my question with the only answer, "the dealer". I would never take my car to a dealer. I'll say it again, stop gap technology, one type of propulsion is complicated enough, let alone two.

Did you realise they have an 8 and 10 year warrenty and that includes 100,000 or 150,000 miles depenting on the state you live in.That's for prius, i don't know about the others.Since they came out 10 years or so ago they have never had a battery pack failure.I understand they had a lot of software problems, but for the most part have solved them over time. The car is technical delight is what i hear. But i know God made choc and van.so we would have a choice. Me,i'd get one for a daily driver and keep the ss for weekends.

I would buy a hybrid if they were a little more in line cost wise as a gas-powered equivelant!

I'm a big guy and the Prius is a bit small for me. The wife and I drove a Civic Hybrid and it is comfortable for me front and back. The only way you can tell it from a regular Civic outside is the nameplate. I'm not overwhelmed by it's styling but it isn't ugly at all. We're going to buy one as soon as we get the money together. She has always had a thing for high mileage cars. The Civic she has now is an FX that gets just under 50 mpg and the one before that was a HF CRX that got over 50 mpg-both of those with conventional technology.

Toyota Carolla would give you better gas mileage in that case. 45-50 mpg highway...

I appreciate what you're saying, and I sure do see alot on the road. Bottom line for me is I need AWD to get thru our winter, and it's hard to beat my Outback Limited sedan.
