need help asap!!!
i pulled my intake to switch my knock sensors out. didnt break anything upon removal, and didnt break anything on install, bu my oil pressure gauge is maxed out. even when i just turn the key to on all my gauge zero out except the oil pressure gauge. it maxes out, then tries to go even further when i start up. what the hell is causing this???? please help!

oil sending unit is in fact more than likely broken. if you dont know about it then it can be easy to miss.
all wires and vac lines were literally wrapped around mine when i swapped to the ls6 intake manifold. when broken it is hard to spot after it is broken. because the portion you see sticks up and was most likely broken off and fell somewhere.
this is what the sensor looks like. also called oil pressure sensor. make sure you get an extra deep socket because a regular 3" isnt deep enough. i had to get 2, cut one and weld the 2 together to get more than 3" deep. there were no 3+" deep sockets available to me. but it easily causes oil pressure to go crazy. mine was maxed out aswell. DO NOT TIGHTEN SENSOR BY HAND IF YOU CANT FIND THE SOCKET!!!! 2 weeks later i had to switch sensors because the first replacement was ruined and maxed again. tephlon tape and tighten with a socket. has been good for the past year. i didnt use tq specs. when the socket wasnt easily tightened i stopped. you should probably use tq specs though.Last edited by 00z28bubba; 03-19-2010 at 11:20 AM.

i would think if it broke it would show 0 oil pressure....not like 100 psi or more

as far as i know that is the only oil pressure sensor. but if the intake wasnt taken off before you are almost guarenteed to break it because of the wires being completely wrapped around it, and being 11 year old brittle plastic. not a good combination imo. when i found the broken piece, i barely squeezed it and it almost crumbled like wet sand clumps. i was in awe. then i tried to break an egg by squeezing it in my palm and humbled again lol

blacker than wesleysnipes- 98' trans am
well hold on..when you break the opsu..it sits at zero..as it is not getting any readings ....however i would pay close attention to it..remove the opsu and give it a good look over..also make sure the plug is securely on and there are no pinched wires.

ok i see you ordered a new one..good deal..that should fix your problem..also if you have an advanced auto there..buy a opsu socket
then return it after you are done..say it didn't fit

damn you guys are good....atleast it was this. and i have it figured out...i know this thing was still standing when i took the intake off the first time, and was standing when i put it back in, so my guess is i hit it somehow on the way back in and snapped her off...02z28bubba, im thinking u can have the junior whopper. haha
and im with you spaz, only i was thinking something along the lines of a little capuchian monkey haha. that would be bad ass
