Has anyone used adam's buttery wax? They basically describe it as a non-finicky general use wax. I don't have a porter cable so I would use their hand applicator pads. I plan on claybarring then waxing our clear coat vehicles

okay...ya know here's a good question. i'm dinkin around here and got to thinking...what's the difference between "polish" and "wax."
i'm on the liquid glass website and the race glaze website. race glaze doesn't make a wax just a "polish & sealant" and liquid glass is a polish which "will not crack, chip, peel, or turn yellow."
so am i right to assume here that a polish is not a wax and that a polish actually hardens as a shell over the top of your paint/clear coat and can not be removed except through special processes and chemicals whereas a wax and be stripped with a good exterior wash, clay bar, or just over time.
answers?

polish does as its name implies, polish. It cuts a little, not like buffing though. I'm guessing it leaves a protective layer behind

Polish cleans up defects and brings out the shine.
Wax seals it in....as does sealants.
Glaze is like a really light polish....more to enhance appearance than to remove defects.
The order I do mine in.
Menzerna (polish)
Prima Finish (light polish)
Prima Amigo (glaze)
Victoria's Concours Red (wax)
Now, that is when it is garaged. I tend to skip the Prima products when it sits outside as the sealants tends to adhear better with the freshly polished (with Menzerna) surface.

does polish (like the ones i mentioned above) wear off over time from exposure to the elements like wax does? as i was reading it sounded like it created a barrier that was difficult to remove without harsh procedures.

You're reading about shit that is marketed as doing more than one thing... polishing paint and protecting it as well. It likely doesnt do either very well. As luos said, little if any polish is left on the paint. Its only job is to remove flaws from the clearcoat. A sealant or wax is there to protect the paint from new flaws.

I wanted to try those two, still do, but i used Surf City Garage Carnauba wax and there quick detailer. I like it so far, price isn't to bad. in fact i really like there quick detailer. Haven't heard to much about Surf Cities products here but so far its the best i have used. Has anyone else used there stuff?
by the way i also used there leather cleaner. And Im really happy with that as well! not only did it leave my leather looking a feeling amazing, but the smell is amazing too, conditioned my leather last june, drove my car this summer, and put it away for the winter in october. I sat in my car the other week and it still smells like a new leather jacket, love the way the inside of my car smells!Last edited by Rob00Taws6; 03-16-2010 at 06:45 PM.
