Cleaned up Camaro - lots of pics
OK so I adopted this car...it had been neglected, bad.
it looked like it hadn't been washed in months. seriously. I didnt know what condition the paint was in because of the dirt on the sides. The brake dust wasnt just covering the rims, it was caked...they looked like they were powder coated brown.
The interior is in good shape, just dirty, I took a shop vac too it, and literally filled it up. so no pics were really necessary for that.
The day i picked it up, I took it to a wash bay, and got a LOT of dirt off, but it took another trip to the bay to get it clean enough to wash by hand, most of these "before" pics, are after the first 2 trips to the pressure washer, just for reference
first up was polishing the headlights
used Meguairs PlastX kit with the drill attachment
Next i got to the rims I used to black magic spray, it worked pretty good, but DONT follow the instructions, I hosed down a small spot, scrubbed it with a tooth brush and wiped it off with a towel, if you let this stuff sit for more than about 10 seconds it dries and is just as bad as before
after
In the corners of the spokes the dust was so thick i had to chip it out, to get it down enough to use the cleaner.
I literally think they tires are out of balance now that i cleaned em up.
Next up is the windshield. first pic is of the groove cut into it by it the wiper arm somehow. but I cracked the other side trying to pry the arm off so i got it replaced. the arms were installed about 10 degrees too high, so the driver side went off the glass, rubbing the paint off the pillar
Ok so now to the side molding, it was only on one side of the car, from headlight to tail light, aftermarket. I dont know....I just dont know.
this is what I was left with after using 3M adhesive remover, some of that is dirt, but after wiping it down with a rag, it didnt look much better.
after the clay bar
Finished product
I took a lot of pics of the paint, before i clay-barred, polished, and waxed the whole car, but the after results arent spectacular enough to post all those pics. but yeah, it has some decent scratches.
Heres the back window, its somehow scratched up, I mean what the hell, it looks like someone set a poodle on here with diamond tipper toenails. I'm gonna try out Zainos glass polish sometime.
Heres my custom shift knob that DavidZ28 cut for me, Ill get a pick of it installed sometime

Looks good man. Shame you gotta spend all that time and effort to get it back to the way it should look. People should be shot for letting their cars get that way.
It's not how fast you can go. It's how fast you can get there.

i know right.
Day 1 - power wash, interior.
Day 2 - Headlights.
Day 3 - passenger rims, and remove molding.
Day 4 - Driver rims, clay bar the molding residue.
Day 5 - clay barred the whole car.
Day 6 - washed, polished, and waxed.

Not a whole lot right now...the same jackass cut the factory wiring harness and hardwired his stereo in, so im working on that next, so i can put my stereo in it.
After that I think I'm gonna paint the calipers red and put the "camaro" decal on them.
Its been throwing codes, it had 5 when I picked it up. cleared them and now im dealing with them as they come back.
I gotta track down an EVAP leak, its only come back once in 3 tanks of gas, it was when i was really low.
I'm also getting bank 1 and 2 rich codes, so i need to track down some MAF cleaner, hopefully thatll clear that up.

Is that headlight polishing pretty straight forward? And do they start to dull again after your next wash? Looks great BTW!
