My 1st car was a 54 Chevy station wagon. Gutless six cylinder and manual everything (steering wheel had to be at least 18" diameter) with a 3-on-the-tree. This was back in 1970.

Two major differences between this recall and the Toyota debacle:

    1. Nobody died.
    2. There was no cover up.

Yet the talking heads on the TV make it sound like the same situation.

    Sheesh.

as long as the highway tranportation safety association is in effect, recalls will always exist to protect the consumers...

    great spot to check recalls

my point is that I don't think it should even be a recall.... Unless they are failing at an obscene level and right out of the box.....

I mean recalling a broken power steering motor??? What's next? Recall cars because the brakes need to be changed?

An electric motor is not going to last forever and is eventually going to need to be replaced. From what I understand these systems are easier to service than hydraulic systems and i bet the motor even costs less than some of those hydraulic pumps. I need to find the NHTSA campaign on this or get more info because it doesn't make sense why a failed power steering is cause for recall. It's cause for a trip to autozone... that's about it.

I mean I can see people complaining to the NHTSA that their brakes stopped working after only 30,000 miles!?!?!? Here comes the govt to the rescue! recall all of em and make sure those brake pads last 1,000,000 miles!!!! it's peoples LIVES at stake! We can't have brakes failing after ONLY 30,000 miles.

People need to learn how their cars work for REAL.... We need much stricter licensing laws and not just a test that makes sure you know what the signs mean. They need to test people for knowledge of how the VEHICLE operates and how to maintain them.

    just sayin....

Europe has a good driving system. In Germany I believe they pretty much have a performance driving school for drivers ed. Like recovering from spins in the rain and stuff like that. Drivers were 100x better in the uk than here that's for sure. They knew what yield meant too
