Y-Pipe Question
I was perusing Ebay for Magnaflow exhaust systems and I came across two that fit my car. One with dual Quad tips and one with dual tips and no y-pipes. Now this is probably a noob question...but is a y-pipe required for installation of this exhaust system on my car? I'd like to get the one with no y-pipe because it will save me about $300 bucks, but I don't want to waste my time and maybe even more money if a y-pipe is required.

The Magnaflow 16723 (quad tips) will fit your stock Y-pipe. This thread details the install of that system on our car: http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121606 I presume that the same holds true for their other catback.

P.S. Check with Mark at KY Speed (site sponsor) before you buy on e-bay. Chances are he may have a better price. You can PM "marksls1ta" to inquire.

My question though is if the dual tip system that doesn't come with a y-pipe will fit.

None of the catbacks include a Y-pipe. They are generally designed to interface with both stock and aftermarket Y-pipes. I recently changed out the stock Y to a Kooks catted Y. No issues.

Ah ok. That makes sense. What are the benefits of an aftermarket Y-pipe?

They will both bolt up. Neither has a Y so it really does not make since why they even mention that. Like the guys said abouve you don't need the Y to install and the only differance between the two systems are the hardware quality and the ability to use different tips. The cheaper system uses a welded in round tip and regular muffler claps that tend to kink pipe V's the band style clamps in the more expensive one.
