Red- 02' Z28 M6
05' GT vs 02' Z28
probably asked before, so don't flame me, I did not find it. Any way, my co-workers all have mustangs. One of them just traded in his 2003 Auto Mach 1 (gray) in for his 05 Manual GT, he says it is faster than the Mach 1, another has the orange 03' Mach 1 (pending headers and opted to get rather than 03' Cobra??) and lastly one has an 01' Cobra. I thought the 05' GT and the 03' Mach 1's both shared the same engine. The one says the Mach 1 will beat the 01 Cobra and the same now says the 05 will beat them all and the other says the 03 Mach (pending headers will beat them all) Make sense??? My question is.....stock for stock which one would the 02' LS1 M6 beat? Say the LS1, stock dyno'd 301RWHP. I may pull the LS1 out of storage and possibly race the 05' tomorrow. I have a lid, filter, MAF, exhaust...I should smoke him.

All three cars are beatable, especially the GT.
Stock for stock, it's close when comparing with the '01 Cobra and the Mach, but your Z should have the edge over them if you are a better driver.
The new '05 4.6 is different from the older ones. Cobra and Mach have 4 valves per cylinder, dual overhead cams. It makes good power, but not as much as the other two. You should take this one easily.Hammer - hammertime.us

You would kill all three of those cars, providing you can drive. They are high-13 low 14 second cars at best.

There is no such thing as an orange 03 Mach, only made in that color in 04. A 5 speed mach is quicker than a 05 GT and 01 Cobra. If you race a 5 speed Mach it is a drivers race, the other two you will more than likely beat.

your going to have troubble with the Mach 1, and the 05 GT. They both run in the low 13's if properly driven. I still can't belive people on this board don't realize these cars are on par with the LS1's of old.

show room floor ####
well the only one you should worry about is the mach 1
the modular mach 1s came with 305 hp off the show room floor
and they can be the equal to the pesky 03-04 cobras
but if it is stock you will have one hell of a story to tell your grandkids

I think that most of us have modded LS1 cars, which would lead to a minor beating of any of those Mustangs if they are stock. Might be why some of us seem to think you would 'kill' those stangs.
Driver's race with the '05 and the Mach.
From a roll I would give the advantage to the LS1 car. A bit more horsepower.2008 Trailblazer SS

that was a typo, I know that the 03 cobra did not come in the "mach" orange, at least I have never seen one.
Have not raced yet, and yes my LS1 is not stock and I am a good driver, I think I will win. My question was geared strictly at stock. I thought that the the stangs RWHP broke down like this.

03' mach 1 same or lower

This site appears to rate the Mach 1 almost the same, ranging from 270 - 274 for three stock examples. That makes sense, as the engines are pretty much the same (I though there was something different in the valvetrain - I'm sure the Mustang guys will let us know)
2005 GT's are rated at less power than the other models, in a heavier car. Tests from the same site as above show less rear wheel power to correspond. Don't see it being as fast as the others.
Image linked from this thread The 98 Trans Am put 292 to the rear wheels. An average '02 LS1 M6 car should do at least that, if not closer to 300.
I'll stand by my initial claim of "stock for stock" it's a drivers race against the '01 Cobra or the '03 Mach. You should get a couple cars out on the '05 GT.
Also, if you really want to a good test, put your stock lid, filter and MAF back on there for one last run.
Good luck and post the results.

I couldn't shake a mach 1 from 60 to 100. I had a full car, he was by himself. I got on it but not at full capability. Don't let up at all drive hard and you should edge it.

quicky
well you will beat the 01 cobra but may behind the 03 mach
i don't know the hp # for the cobra but the mach 1 kickes out 305 hp stock and as for the 05 you will get him off the line cuz they are much heavier so i'd go for a shorter race

Mach and cobra will be a drivers race....05 gt won't be as close but you won't rape him either. I ran a 99 cobra with intake and exhaust....not sure if he had the "good" intake manifold or not, but from a dig and spinning kinda bad on the 2nd gear shift I had a few cars on him to 70 and was pulling pretty hard. I just have light bolt-ons and a auto...so you should be fine. What tires do you have on?
